Yesterday was a bumpy one but a good one. Our little girl who we have loving named FellaRose (Rose for short) got shipped off to her new home at 7am in SC. She was expected to arrive here at 4:16pm but when we went to get her, we discovered that the transfer flight from Atlanta was delayed due to bad weather. This but her new ETA at 8:04pm. Not only was I sad my little girl was not there when I went to pick her up, I was so worried for her. That delay meant she was in a small crate for 11 hours or so. A sweet little puppy ripped from her mom and siblings, stuffed into a small crate, loaded on the loud bumpy plane, never to see the ones she has come to know and love again. I was worried she was going to have psychological trauma about crates and travel.
Nevertheless, we arrived to get out baby girl for the second time at 8:04pm. She pulled up in the passenger seat of a truck around 8:30pm. As the placed her on the counter I almost cried I was so happy and excited. Her reaction was nervous as she looked through her crate door at the people who would love her forever.
I opened the door to see if she would walk about by herself. Answer: "No thanks." She tentatively stuck her head out the the crate but made no other effort to come out of her crate. I gently reached in and pulled her out. She was so soft and beautiful. She bright blue eyes searched the room and then momentarily glanced up at me. In that moment my heart melted. This was my little girl; a new addition to my life.
We gathered our things and our little girl and headed into the cold to get in the car, only to find i had locked the keys in the car. Here comes the bumps!
I called every family member knowing that most of them were at my cousin's wedding reception a few cities over. Each call went unanswered or straight to voice mail.
The facts were these: we had our little girl. We were stranded. The cargo building was closing soon. My mother had just recently broke her wrist and I knew she might have a spare key but was unable to drive. No one was picking up, and our phones were dying fast.
We sat in the hall and tried to warm up our little girl, both physically and emotionally. I had brought in a bag of toys I had previously bought for her so she at least had something to play with. The breeder also kindly taped a bag of her dog food to top of her crate. So our famished little girl are and played in her new state, in the hall of the cargo building.
Finally my mother picked up. The alarms were sounded and my wonderful family started making plans to save us. Plan A was to call airports sequirty and see if the would break into my car for me. When we called them, we were informed they do not do lock outs anymore. Plane B was to find and bring us my spare key. It didn't pan out because the spare was never found. Plan C was for my wonderful uncle and cousin to drive 45 minutes back to their house, grab their breakout gear and drive the hour to the airport cargo building to break into my car. Plan C was a success! It truly put me in the Christmas spirit. The cargo workers didn't kick us out after they closed. In fact I think they stayed overtime to make sure we didn't have to be kicked out into the cold. My wonderful family did all they could to think of solutions for us. And my dear uncle and cousin were my hero's that night as they made the long trip to help us out. I am sure that if I had to call a company to come open my car so late at night, it would have cost me at least $300. I need to think of something I can do to repay everyone that helped us. Merry Christmas TallHuskyMama, humanity is still intact and we now have a beautiful new little girl! I am so blessed.
