Saying goodbye is never easy. 💔
Yesterday, I flew from Salt Lake City to Alabama to personally deliver Midas to his new home. This little guy has been such a bright, loving, and joyful part of our lives, and choosing not to keep him was one of the hardest decisions we’ve made - it took us a very long time to reach. Thankfully, Midas’s new family is absolutely wonderful and thrilled to welcome him, which brings us a lot of peace as we let him go.
There were two main reasons we ultimately chose to place Midas in a loving pet home rather than keep him in our breeding program:
1. Midas blossomed into a stunning, show-quality kitten. That said, every breeding program has its own vision for the future. While he meets the Maine C**n standard beautifully, his features aren’t quite the direction we’re refining toward in our next generation. We’re aiming for a slightly more pronounced look, while still staying well within the standard.
2. Midas is closely related to all but one of our current and upcoming Queens, including Athena, Selene, Eris, Chloe, Clio, Daphne, Kyra, and Gaia, which left very limited pairing options within our program.
At our cattery, we’ve made a personal commitment to maintaining genetic diversity and predictable health and structure above all else. This means avoiding pairings between related cats. While breeding philosophies can vary, we’ve chosen to work exclusively with healthy, unrelated lines that align with our goals for temperament, structure, and type.
Midas will always have a special place in our hearts, and we are so excited for him to begin this next chapter with a family that already loves him dearly. ❤️
