Uncharacteristic sluggishness, unsteady gait, drooling, heavy breathing, diarrhea, seizures and sudden bouts of vomiting are among the common clinical signs of feline poisoning (toxicosis).

A cat owner who observes any of these signs will do an animal a huge favor by seeking emergency veterinary care. Immediate treatment may be the only way the cat’s life will be saved.

Read on for a microchip miracle!

Anabelle the cat disappeared from her home one day without a trace. Her owners searched their home and neighborhood with no luck. Days went by and turned into weeks until a full month had passed with no sightings of their cat.

Yesterday, a community member came to the shelter with a cat that they had found. They had taken the cat to the vet to be scanned for a microchip and the cat had one! Unfortunately, no owner information was registered to chip. Our customer service team started doing some research and were able to find the vet office that had initially implanted the microchip. After a phone call to the vet office, they were able to look up the owner information and we gave the owners a call.

The owners were ecstatic! They had almost given up hope of ever seeing Anabelle again. They drove to the shelter and less than an hour later, we were able to reunite them with their cat.

Thank you to everyone who helped Anabelle the cat get home - from the finders to the vet offices - we are so happy to have been able to get her back to her family!

Please ensure your pets are microchipped and registered with up-to-date information! You can use the registry provided by your brand of microchip or any of the free registry listings. Baby, it's cold outside...

To help cats stay as safe as possible in the cold weather, keep them inside if they live with you. Make sure that you pound on the hood of your car and/or honk the horn before starting the engine to avoid harming cats that may be seeking warmth under the hood or in the wheel wells and do the same before starting a tractor or enclosed generator. While controversial in some places, providing food, shelter, and access to water for stray/feral cats can also help them through periods when the thermometer drops.
