It's not every homesteader that is blessed with a yard full of tall grass to allow their goats to graze.
And it is even fewer still who have the equipment to be able to safely cut that grass and turn it into portable feed for their animals.
Thank God for goats, grass, and the genious who invented the Scythe.

I love finding volunteers. I thought this was a rose bush for some reason earlier this season and last year. Never really took the time to look at it. But SUPRISE! Its a berry cane!
The berries here are from my grandmothers patch, with fond memories of her blackberries, and the rasberries are descendants of the ones my great grandmother grew!
We also have rhubarb off my grandmothers plant that has done tremendously this year.

Who else has such wonderful living heirloom treasures?

After sourcing myself a grindstone to sharpen my ever growing flock of antique hand tools, I was left with the problem of needing a handle. Thankfully I have the ability to weld. Sort of.
It doesn't have to be pretty, it just needs to be functional....
Anywho.... if anyone knows a source to find info on rebuilding this stand or building the treadle for it, I would be most interested!

Many thanks to Wendy and her husband for not only allowing me to purchase this tool, but for giving me a brief rundown on some of the history of it. This stone was used in Dover NH "way back in the day". Though no actual dates were shared (as no one may know them), I would imagine this stone must be at least 75-100+ years and I am beyond thrilled to get to become a part of it's history.
