We are entering HIGH TEMPS this weekend and all of next week! Heat stroke is very real, very scary and can escalate to death QUICKLY
Please be mindful of your dogs and any outside animals you have.
Dogs particularly at risk:
🐾Black coats
🐾Thick/double coats (huskies, Pyrenees)
🐾Older dogs
🐾Dogs with short snouts/flat faces (bulldogs, pugs)
🐾Dogs with deep chests (Great Danes)
Even if your dog does not fall into the above categories, please be mindful of their time outside! If you have to walk them, walk them early morning or late evening. Limit their outside time during the day to 10-15 minutes at a time MAX. Always have fresh water available. Leave fans on if needed.
Be sure to know the signs of heat stroke:
🔥Excessive panting
🔥Drooling
🔥Bright red or pale gums
🔥Increased heart rate
🔥Vomiting
🔥Diarrhea
🔥Lethargy
🔥Uncoordinated movements
Be sure to know how to help treat and prevent heat stroke or death:
🐶Move to a cooler/shaded area
🐶Poor COOL water (not cold to prevent shock) over their body - EXCEPT THEIR HEAD
🐶Allow them to drink small amounts of water
