Good afternoon all. I'm coming out of retirement for the day :)
As you've probably heard, a major winter storm is heading our way starting tomorrow afternoon/evening and continuing through Monday.
Central and Southern Indiana and Western and Southwestern Ohio will be ground zero in our region for the most significant impacts of this winter storm.
Areas across Southern Indiana and extreme Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky along the Ohio River could see significant amounts of freezing rain and sleet and this could lead to power outages.
But heavy snow will be the big story across Central Indiana. We're forecasting 3-6" of snow for Lafayette, Kokomo and Celina. 6-9" of snow will fall in places like Carmel, Hamilton County, Anderson and Muncie and we're forecasting a heavy band of 9-12" of snow from Terre Haute to Indianapolis, Richmond, Dayton and down towards Greenwood and Hamilton, Ohio. Bloomington, Seymour and Cincinnati will receive 6-9" of snow plus some sleet and freezing rain and snow amounts will taper off across Southern Indiana where more sleet and freezing rain is expected (which will still lead to extremely hazardous conditions).
Snow rates Sunday Night could reach 1-2" per hour across much of Central and South Central Indiana and this will be a dynamic system which could produce thunder and lightning (aka thundersnow).
Strong winds will lead to widespread blowing and drifting Sunday Night and Monday with gusts up to 40 mph. Whiteout conditions and near blizzard conditions are likely. Road conditions Sunday Night and Monday will become extremely hazardous and many roads will drift shut and travel will become extremely difficult if not impossible.
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for all of Central and Southern Indiana and Western and Southwestern Ohio.
