We picked up a few more breeds today that we will add to our flock and some will be for sale as laying hens in a little bit. There will be a few of these fancier rooters available as well. Our flock is growing!

Soo… we are venturing into meat birds again. Butcher date is set for July at Mineral springs processing plant. We decided home process wasn’t for us after our last round.

We will be taking deposits when we get them a little bigger. Then the finish weight will determine their price. We’re working on our price per pound in the mean time. They are eating Non GMO corn and soy free grain locally made. If you are ready to know where your food was lovingly raised send a message and get on our list. If this goes well we’ll do more through the year.

I have a pretty good “stash” of Ball lids from before they were bought out. While the new cases I get have the new lids I do not actively buy boxes of them. I’m using my old good lids. I just opened a fresh box from my stash and happened to also have a lid from a new box of jars I’d gotten as I am putting pie filling away. Look at the visible difference in the rubber ring size. No wonder we have had so many failed seals last year with the tuna in the new jars we bought. I won’t make that mistake again this year. I will use up my stash and I’ll only be buying specific brands as I move forward. Please look at the quality as you buy your jars this year. They are not what they used to be. I hate having loss and it’s worse when it’s pressure canned and can’t just be re ran for 5 min. Ball needs to get their act together or lose a lifetime of canners.

New cartons for the clients at home. We love the way the stack and are just a little different. The future little egg layers are growing very well. Momma has kept all 5 alive for a little over a week just doing her thing. Not always easy on a farm. She is a great momma.
