Cold, Wet, and Potentially Icy Weather This Weekend ❄️🌧️

With cold, wet, and possibly icy weather moving in this weekend, please remember to bring your pets inside. Dogs and cats cannot safely withstand prolonged exposure to these conditions — even those who “normally stay outside.”

Here’s a quick look at local forecasts for the weekend:

📍 Leakey:
Expect rain Friday, then a very cold Saturday with freezing rain possible in the morning and some afternoon ice — highs near 35°F / ~2°C and lows down in the teens. Sunday stays cold with highs near 38°F / ~3°C.

📍 Concan & Rio Frio:
Rain Friday, then much colder Saturday (highs in the 40s) and periods of sleet/freezing rain Sunday morning with highs only in the low-to-mid 40s and lows near the low 20s.

This kind of weather is dangerous for animals left outside — even short exposure can cause hypothermia or worse.

For pets & outdoor animals who must stay outside

👉 Use STRAW, not hay, for bedding.
Straw repels moisture and insulates — hay absorbs water and makes animals colder.

If straw isn’t available:
• Shredded (non-glossy) paper — loosely fluffed for insulation
• Kiln-dried pine shavings — absorb a little moisture but still insulate

🚫 Avoid towels, cotton blankets, or hay outdoors — they hold moisture and freeze.

Additional cold-weather safety tips:
• Provide fresh, unfrozen water (check often)
• Make shelters dry, wind-protected, and elevated
• Smaller spaces help trap body heat
• Check paws for ice/ice balls after outings
• Check engine bays before starting vehicles (cats may hide there for warmth)

🐾 Cozy Critter Pet Sitter – FAQ 🐾

Why should I choose a pet sitter instead of boarding?
In-home pet sitting allows your pets to remain in the comfort of their own home, follow their normal routines, and experience less stress than boarding. It also helps reduce exposure to illnesses that can occur when animals from multiple households are cared for in one location.

What services do you offer?
• 30-Minute Check-In: $20
• Extended Check-In / Hourly Visit: $35
• Overnight Stay: $80
• Full Day & Night Care (18–20 hours): $250

What areas do you serve?
Leakey • Rio Frio • Concan

What types of animals do you have experience with?
I have experience caring for a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc.), small livestock (goats, sheep), horses, chickens, reptiles, and parrots.

Do you offer meet & greets?
Yes. A meet & greet is required prior to booking so I can meet you and your pets, review care routines, and ensure we are a good fit.

Can you give medications or provide special care?
Yes. I can administer most medications and follow detailed care instructions. Please disclose all medical needs and special care requirements at the time of booking.

Will I receive updates while I’m away?
Absolutely. You will receive regular updates, photos, and videos so you can enjoy peace of mind while you’re away.

What is your cancellation policy?
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. Cancellations made within 7 days of the start date are charged the full booking amount.

Do you care for sick animals?
For the health and safety of all pets in my care, any signs of contagious illness must be disclosed prior to booking. Bookings will not be accepted until the pet has been seen by a veterinarian and cleared for care.

Do you post pets on social media?
Only with owner permission. Clients may choose whether their pets, home, or visit details are shared on social media. No posts will be made until the sit is complete and owners have returned home.

✨ I’ve had a recent uptick in messages and tags for services I don’t offer, so I thought now would be a good time to clear things up!

All of my pet sitting services take place in your home — I do not offer boarding, and I do not sit for children.

Here’s what I do offer:

🐾 30-Minute Check-In
A quick visit to your home for feeding, fresh water, potty breaks, medication (if needed), and plenty of love — all within 30 minutes.

🐾 Extended Check-In / Hourly
Similar to a standard check-in, but for an hour or longer — perfect if your pets need a little extra time, care, or company.

🐾 Overnight
I arrive around 9:00pm and stay until about 7:00am. During that time, your pets are cared for, loved on, and kept in their normal nighttime routine.
*Overnights are often paired with a mid-day check-in.

🐾 Full Day + Overnight
Your home becomes my “home base” while you’re away. Your pets get nearly 24/7 care and companionship — the only times I step out are for a few hours morning and evening to care for my own crew.

Hey y’all!! I’m excited to share that I’ve officially been pet sitting full-time for just under a year now, and what a year it’s been! I’ve learned so much from caring for your amazing pets, and I’m so grateful for the trust and support you’ve all given me—whether you’re a regular client or a one-timer!

As I continue to grow and improve, I’m going to be making a few changes going forward. This includes updates to my prices, the services I provide, and a few forms that all clients will need to fill out (just once) before we proceed with services. Below is my new price sheet, and I’ll be sending out a Terms of Service agreement to all current clients, along with a Pet Care Form and a Veterinary Release Form, so keep an eye out for those this week!

Please note that the new prices won’t affect anything already scheduled but will apply to any bookings moving forward. Additionally, due to a few last-minute cancellations, I will now be requiring a non-refundable booking fee for all bookings moving forward. This fee will go toward the total cost of services.

I’ve loved caring for so many of your pets this year, and I’m looking forward to continuing to provide the best care possible. Thank you all for the support and the opportunity to do what I love!
