📊 Shelter Snapshot 7.27-8.2🐾

We welcomed 53 animals into our care last week and helped 45 pets move on to their next chapter. Overall kennel capacity increased by 10%.

🐶 Dogs: 102% Capacity (52 dogs)
While we had 6 dog adoptions and 4 returned home last week. We are in the extreme capacity range. As always, fostering and adoption can help these animals get out of the shelter and allow us to house our animals in the correct locations. 🩵

🐱 Cats: 47% Capacity (32 Cats)
Last week 3 more cats arrived than left which puts us at the top of the normal range for our cat capacity. We celebrated 12 cat adoptions and 14 foster placements🧡Thank you to everyone who is adopting and fostering!!

✨ Every adoption, foster placement, rescue transfer, share, and reunion makes a difference. Thank you to our staff, volunteers, fosters, rescue partners, and community members for helping us keep pets moving toward loving homes. Let's keep the momentum going! 💙

League City Animal Care Recognized by Best Friends Animal Society for 2025 Lifesaving Achievement 💫

We are proud to share that League City Animal Care (LCAC) has been recognized by Best Friends Animal Society for achieving a 90%+ live release rate in 2025, meeting the nationally recognized benchmark for a no-kill shelter, by Best Friends Animal Society for the 4th consecutive year.

This recognition reflects the dedication and compassion of our staff, volunteers, fosters, adopters, rescue partners, and community members who work together every day to give animals the best possible chance at a positive outcome. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a role in making this achievement possible. 🐾

A live release rate measures the percentage of animals leaving the shelter through positive outcomes such as adoption, return to owner, or transfer to another organization. As defined by Best Friends Animal Society, a live release rate of 90% or higher is the nationally recognized benchmark for achieving no-kill status. While this is an important milestone, it does not mean a shelter never performs euthanasia. In some cases, humane euthanasia remains the most compassionate option for animals experiencing untreatable medical suffering or behavior that presents a significant safety risk.

At LCAC, every animal is evaluated as an individual. Decisions are made based on medical and behavioral assessments, quality of life, and public safety, with a commitment to treating every animal with compassion and dignity. Our goal is not only to save lives whenever possible, but also to ensure that every outcome reflects responsible, humane care.

This recognition represents thousands of lives changed through reunions with families, adoptions into loving homes, foster care, lifesaving medical treatment, and strong rescue partnerships. It reflects the collective effort of our community to support animals in need and create positive outcomes whenever possible.

Our Empty the Shelters event with BISSELL Pet Foundation was a total success - 90 cats, 35 dogs and 1 guinea pig are now living their best lives! 🐶🐱
