The Dirty Dog Competition at mountain groom expo was a leap of faith for me! I had no idea what to expect whether it was rescue dogs, client dogs, or anything else. But I was excited!
So, Saturday, I registered for two competitions
The Freestyle competition with Rosie began around noon, running slightly behind schedule. I finished Freestyle around 3:20 pm, and the Dirty Dog Competition was set to start at 3 pm. I was a bit nervous because I didn't know which dog I would be assigned for the Dirty Dog event, which was determined by a lottery. I was unsure about the time it would take and all the things.
I am so grateful for my family, especially my husband and mom, who were there the whole day, ensuring I had everything I needed for the competition, including moving my table around.
After finishing Freestyle around 3 pm, I handed over Rosie to my family and went to go find out which dog I would be grooming for the Dirty Dog Competition. They mentioned they might not have any more dogs available. I was disappointed, but I accepted it, considering I had competed all day.
Then they informed me that there were still 6 dogs left. Hooray! My family's reaction was a mix of surprise and support. HAHA they were tired. I am sure.
I drew a number and got a Milly, the most adorable cavapoo ever!If I could choose any doodle, it would be a cavapoo. All cavapoos I've encountered have been wonderful dogs. I quickly took the before picture and checked in at 3:45 pm, with 3 hours to go. 🤪
I went to the bathing area to wash and dry Miss Milly. It was crowded, and I realized last minute that I needed my competition ring table for drying, and I had forgotten a towel! Thankfully, a kind groomer got one from her car. I can't recall her name, which I am so sad about, but know it meant so much to me!!
I was done by 6:30 pm, and her parents were thrilled watching their sweet little pup get groomed on stage. I won first place and the scissor award in my class! 🥹
After the competition, they gave me a big hug and jokingly said, "See you in Utah in 6 weeks after a 10 hr drive".
They were in love with the grooming. This competition was the coolest, I love you, Miss Milly. 🤩
