Got three different party invitations this weekend. Declined all of them with the same honest answer: "staying home with my dog." People laughed like I was joking. I wasn't. My actual weekend itinerary is: Saturday morning—coffee with dog on couch. Saturday afternoon—maybe venture to dog-friendly patio if he seems interested. Saturday evening—pajamas by six, dog by my side, zero human interaction. Sunday repeats this exact formula. And I'm genuinely excited about it.
My friends think I'm wasting my twenties being antisocial. But here's what they don't understand—I spent years forcing myself to enjoy crowded bars and loud parties and small talk with strangers, coming home exhausted and empty. Now I spend weekends with my dog and come Monday morning I actually feel rested and happy. He doesn't drain my energy, he restores it.
So yeah, my weekend plans are "avoid people, stay home with dog, only leave if bringing dog." It's not depression or anxiety or fear of socializing. It's just finally admitting what actually makes me happy versus what I'm supposed to enjoy. My dog doesn't judge my weekend choices. He's just thrilled I'm home. And that enthusiasm is more fulfilling than any party I've ever forced myself to attend.
People can think I'm boring. I think I'm finally honest about my priorities. And my dog agrees.
