Kansas City is full of incredible people, with exceptional stories to tell. Through a new project, The Star is giving Kansas Citians who are making a difference in their communities the space to tell these stories.

“Voices of Kansas City” is a community conversation produced by The Star in collaboration with KKFI 90.1 FM community radio and GIFT, a nonprofit supporting Black small businesses in the metro area. This season we are featuring stories from 8 Black entrepreneurs.

From a young woman with a metro area delivery service to a local filmmaker who tapped into lessons learned from his grandmother to start an innovative urban farm, each one was eager to share stories of struggle, triumph and joy.

Tune in to KKFI 90.1 this Friday at noon to hear our first two stories from Dontavious Young, the owner of Equal Minded Cafe, and Damesha Cook, the owner of Dash Delivery. We’ll be sharing 2 stories a week for the next few weeks.
