Did you know?
Historically, Dalmatians were bred in Europe—most notably in the Dalmatia region (now part of Croatia)—and later became famous in 18th- and 19th-century England as “coach dogs.” Their role was to run alongside horse-drawn carriages, guarding the horses and cargo, clearing the way, and adding a touch of elegance to the procession. This same instinct made them natural companions for firehouse horses, which is why they became iconic firehouse mascots.
