Getting more girlies out the door and clearing out cages! These two squads headed out to experienced and we're excited to see where their next adventures take them.

Did you send us an adoption inquiry recently? We'll be reaching out to you very soon!

We had a couple long-time repeat adopters swing by and take some of our available gentlemen home with them. It's always wonderful when we have familiar faces come back for more rattos, and it's very helpful right now considering the insane number of emergency intakes we've received in the last two weeks which has reached over 60 animals and counting (several of the females that we got are pregnant).

Unfortunately, that also means that answering the many individual surrender requests we've received has been delayed. Please note that summertime is the worst time of the year to attempt to rehome an animal, and it's one of the hardest parts of the year for us.

Speaking of insane things...Christine's taking a break for the next several days to reclaim some mental bandwidth. She usually doesn't mention when she does this; however, findings have shown that the number of phone calls and inquiries that come through to SBRR increase exponentially when she leaves town without telling anyone so she's trying to (with much futility) nip it in the bud. A rescuer's work never takes a vacation, but come on, people. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ“ต

That said, we have TONS of rattos that need foster help and socialization work. Wanna help? Head to our website and fill out a foster application. We'll get back to you shortly.

We received 40 rats over the last two days as a result of multiple surrenders and the emergency intake from Ventura. It was nice to subtract from our numbers and send two lady rat trios to their .

At this time, surrenders are on a case-to-case basis due to space. We are processing adoption inquiries as efficiently as possible, so we thank you for your patience.

We are also looking for experienced fosters who can help with the "spicier" rats from Ventura. While some of them are cool with people, several of them are still scared and need some work. Please DM us if interested.

It's been a weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Storytime! This very generous donation came from a sweet older woman named Irma. She lives in Parma, OH, a suburb of Cleveland and the hometown of Drew Carey. Irma found us after a librarian at her local library helped her do an online search of because she doesn't own a computer. According to her, we were the only rescue to (1) have a listed phone number and (2) actually pick up the phone, so she pledged to send us a check whenever she could.

This is especially touching for our founder, Christine, who used to live about 28 miles away from Parma in Eastlake, OH before she returned home to California.

We'd like to thank Irma from Parma from the bottom of our hearts for her support of SBRR. Also, if you'd like to donate to us, remember that your contributions are 100% tax deductible (we're a 501(c)(3) non-profit)! ๐Ÿ€โค๏ธ

We had some fun adoptions in the past week. Here we go, in no particular order!

First, Satchel (a.k.a. plastic bag rat) and one of her new cagemates found their forever home with a first-time rat owner who's been doing all the research and has been preparing for their arrival. We know they'll be in good hands, and a fresh Double Critter Nation is far nicer than what Satchel came in, which really did ignite the whole Internet. So I guess we can say that the new owner "won the whole bag?" ๐Ÿ˜…

Next, two ladies who came from the West Valley Shelter were combined with a lovely young girl with a mammory tumor to make a fun trio. We are assisting with the girl's tumor removal so she can continue enjoying life in her new place.

Lastly, we had a pair of dudes join a lonely guy who was originally adopted from us after his brother passed away suddenly. It took a little adjustment, but it looks like they're going to be all good together. It's usually more challenging to get older males to get along with each other, but we got lucky with these guys.

We're gonna take a break for a few days. Our "plastic bag rat" is staying on top of things while we're out...like one of her new cagemates.

BTW we named our little friend "Satchel," which is a far more elegant way to carry things around. ๐Ÿ‘œ๐Ÿ€ She is such a good girl.

We just had one of the worst surrender situations to date.

- Person requests us to accept the surrender of a rat.
- We provide a surrender appointment time, but quickly cancel it within an hour due to an error in our system and promptly inform this person of the schedule change.
- Person completely ignores cancelation and comes anyway despite us telling them that there's nobody to receive the animal. Person replies with "I'll leave it on the porch if there's nobody around."
- We figure out a solution to receiving the animal, and this is how it arrives to us, in a tied-up plastic bag with no vent holes.

Note: The single rat is okay and is now in an appropriate enclosure until we figure out what to do next. Also, this person is definitely off our Christmas card list.

Sorry if we ruined your lunch.

We believe that we've found the perfect formula to rehome sweet neutered single male rats...toss in a couple lovely ladies to make a mixed insta-mischief.

We did that not once, but twice! Two of our neutered boys each got a pair of girlfriends before heading to their new . The ladies didn't mind their new squishy boy toys and everyone got along great.
