Had a fun day at a ranch sorting competition. We brought Jill, who is available for sale. She was completely unphased by everything and was rock solid all day!
We ended up 3rd team, and won a little of the jackpot.
Last picture, our kiddo got on her at the end to bump the cattle around a little. Can't say enough good things about this girl! She is just solid all around.

"Jill" is an exceptional mare that you don't want to miss out on!

Ranchy and ready to work. Has a big motor and isn't afraid to use it, but can fall asleep and our kids have ridden her with close supervision in a controlled environment.

Very nice foundation bloodlines with Orphan Drift and Colonel Freckles on her papers, so she'd make an amazing broodmare, too.

Dyllon was riding Frederick (a 4 year old we started from the ground up a couple years ago) on the trail when his headstall broke. Frederick caught on pretty quickly how to ride with just a rope around his neck. A video will be shared soon!

Here's one for the books! My special mule Penny has had this mass on the side of her knee for almost 2 years now. It started out small and has gradually grown to be about the size of a golf ball. It never seemed to be painful, and she stayed sound.
But today the weather was perfect, and it was the day to get it removed. After our wonderful vet, Tia Nelson, assessed the mass and determined that it was not full of joint fluid (which would require a trip to the equine hospital because of the risk of joint infection), she set to work removing it.
It appears to be just a fibrous tissue mass with no calcification. (It was also x-rayed beforehand.) It will be sent in to a lab for further assessment.

We had a very eventful and unexpected week at Vista da Serra Marchadors . It started out beautiful with lots of progress to be had with the horses. And then mid-week, there was a whisp of smoke that decided to grow very rapidly. By Thursday the fire was 7500 acres and spreading quickly due to high winds and hot, dry temperatures. The decision was made to evacuate all 31 horses from the ranch when the air quality became severe. So many generous people showed up to help evacuate the horses (11 trailers!) and all of the horses made it out in only one trip! As soon as we got back from settling the horses in to a safe area, official evacuation orders were placed. The Fire is currently 12,797 acres and still 0% contained. Since everybody and all the animals were safely out of harms way, we made our way back home to Lavina on Saturday.
Hopefully next month will be a lot less eventful in the natural disaster department!
