For days, these two girls stayed under the same bridge… waiting.
Possibly sisters. Maybe even a mother and daughter. 8 days they waited!
It was obvious they had once known comfort, safety, and love. But after only a week outside, the changes were heartbreaking. Their ears were covered in painful fly bites. Rainstorms rolled through while they curled up together beneath the bridge, refusing to leave the place where they last saw their owner.
They never wandered more than 15 or 20 feet away. Not once.
That kind of loyalty is hard to explain unless you’ve loved a dog yourself.
While the world moved on around them, these sweet girls stayed exactly where they had been left — patiently believing their person would come back for them. Their survival instincts never fully kicked in because, at some point in life, they had clearly been cherished. They trusted people. They trusted love. They trusted that someone was coming back.
At their age, it’s devastating to think someone believed abandonment was their only option.
Thankfully, before the rain could get worse, these girls were finally brought to safety.
A huge thank you to Anakin’s Trails stray and pet recovery for coming out on a holiday weekend to help secure them. Difficult situations like this take patience, compassion, and experience, and without their help, these loyal babies likely would not have survived much longer.
Tonight, they are safe.
And for the first time in days… they’re no longer waiting alone.
