We have been notified by a parent that their boarding dog came home and has kennel cough. If your dog is coughing, please do not bring them to day care until they are cough free for 48 hours.
We do all we can to prevent illness, but kennel cough can be asymptomatic, which means that dogs can exhibit no symptoms and be carriers. It is also possible to get kennel cough from the Bordetella vaccination, as it is a live virus vaccine, just like the flu shot.
We have gone into deep clean mode and are cleaning all our daycare rooms and boarding suites with our Kaivac cleaning system with Kennel Kare cleaner and cleaning air filters, including our UV Aerapy Air Filtration System.
Please remember that kennel cough is airborne and the equivalent of a person's cold in regards to symptoms. The virus is constantly evolving and the vaccine only covers a few strains. Just because your dog is vaccinated doesn't mean they can't get sick. The main symptom is a hacking cough and lethargy. There are plenty of homeopathic remedies to ease your dogs discomfort, however you can visit the vet if you notice nasal discharge.
If you currently have a boarding reservation and would like to cancel, please let us know ASAP. If you would like to board your dog, you are more than welcome to but please know that you assume the risk that your dog may get sick. Anxiety and stress do compromise the immune system and they are more susceptible to getting sick if that is the case.
We appreciate your understanding.
