The Vegas Vet - Dr. Travis McDermott

The Vegas Vet - Dr. Travis McDermott Just a country boy, playing with puppies and other cool creatures in Sin City at Durango Animal Hosp

Dr. McDermott was born and raised in the great State of Texas and grew up on an emu farm raising chickens and pigs for 4H and FFA. He attended Texas A&M University for both undergraduate and DVM studies. During his tenure at Texas A&M University, Dr. McDermott competed on their national championship poultry judging team, organized and oversaw the annual national veterinary student conference, and

served as the President of the national veterinary student organization. After graduation in 2006, Dr. Travis McDermott started practicing at Tropicana Animal Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. In 2012, he took over as hospital director of Durango Animal Hospital – one of the largest veterinary hospitals in Las Vegas. Dr. McDermott treats dogs and cats as well as pretty much any exotic animal that walks in the door. His interests include surgery, dental procedures, and ultrasound, but his main passion is endoscopy. Since becoming a veterinarian, Dr. McDermott has served as a board member and president/chair of both the Nevada Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association Political Action Committee and currently serves on the board of the Viticus Group (formerly Western Veterinary Conference). Outside of work, Dr. McDermott enjoys spending time with his family that includes his lovely wife, Nasim, and his three children – Owen, Aiden, and Emma. His other passion is working to develop ways to help pet owners better care for their pets when they are not in the vet’s office.

Alright, let’s lay down some truth here…if you ask most veterinary professionals, pugs tend to be the most theatrical during care (especially those nail trims, a**l gland expressions). 😂 But Larry here, he wins the award for most unfazed pug in the history of Durango Animal Hospital. We think that’s something to celebrate. 😇🥇
