🌈 Forever One of Ours: Remembering Pretzel

Yesterday, we received one of those messages that breaks your heart while reminding you exactly why we do what we do. 💔🐾

In April of 2013, a little girl named Pretzel was adopted from Those Left Behind Foundation at Pet-A-Palooza at Sunset Park.

Her family reached out to us yesterday to let us know that after 13½ beautiful years together, Pretzel crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 14 years old. 🌈

For those of us in rescue, adoption day is usually where our part of the story ends. We watch them leave in the arms of their new family, hope we chose well, and move on to the next dog who needs us.

But this is what we hope happens after they leave.

Thirteen and a half years of being someone’s little girl.
Thirteen and a half years of birthdays, ordinary days, adventures, snuggles and memories.
Thirteen and a half years of being safe, wanted and deeply loved.

Pretzel’s family told us she gave them many years of happiness and that she will forever be in their hearts. The fact that after all these years they thought to reach back out and share her passing with us means more than they probably realize.

We may have helped Pretzel find her family in 2013, but they gave her the life every rescue dog deserves.

And that is the whole point.

Every adoption photo we post is only the beginning of a story we don’t always get to see. Pretzel got her happily-ever-after—and she got to live it for more than thirteen years. ❤️

To Pretzel’s family: thank you for choosing her. Thank you for loving her for a lifetime. And thank you for letting us be part of her story once again.

Once a TLB dog, always a TLB dog.

🐾❤️ WE HAVE SOME INCREDIBLE NEWS TO SHARE! ❤️🐾

Those Left Behind Foundation is incredibly honored to have been selected as a recipient of a $5,000 donation from Miranda Lambert's MuttNation through the Mutts Across America program!

Each year, Mutts Across America recognizes shelters and rescue organizations across the country for the work they do for animals in need — and we are beyond grateful to have Those Left Behind Foundation recognized and supported in 2026.

For a volunteer-driven rescue like ours, $5,000 makes a REAL difference. It means veterinary care. Vaccinations. Spay and neuter services. Food and supplies. And most importantly, it gives us the ability to say YES to more dogs who need us. 🐶❤️

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we also received a gift card from Tractor Supply Co. to help provide much-needed supplies for the animals in our care!

A HUGE thank you to Miranda Lambert and MuttNation Foundation, and to Tractor Supply Co., for supporting animal rescue organizations like ours and recognizing the work happening every day in communities across the country.

And, of course, thank you to our fosters, volunteers, adopters, donors and supporters. Rescue truly takes a village, and recognition like this belongs to every person who has opened their home, donated, volunteered, shared a post or helped one of our dogs along the way.

We are incredibly proud to represent Las Vegas and Those Left Behind Foundation as a 2026 Mutts Across America recipient. 🐾

We don’t know about you, but this heat is just crazy! Until we can get back to somewhere comfortable, we won’t be holding any adoption events. We always put our animals safety first and they like being in their nice air conditioned foster homes. If you are interested in meeting any of our babies that are waiting for a forever home, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us and we will gladly schedule a meet & greet with you. We just can’t seem to “fetch” a break with the weather! Due to the extreme heat we are experiencing, we will not be be holding adoptions tomorrow. Please remember that if you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, please message us and we will be happy to set up a one on one meet and greet. We have some sweet babies still waiting for their forever homes. In the meantime, they are waiting it out in a nice cool foster home where they can remain cool & comfortable…

As we approach the upcoming holiday weekend, we will not be holding any adoption events this weekend or next. Out of respect for our animals, we never have held adoptions around the 4th of July. There is always a risk of placing a dog in new surroundings and then having them frightened by the scary noise from the fireworks. We are still available to answer questions on our available dogs but we want to keep them safe until after everything calms down again.

We encourage everyone to be prepared with their own pets, because this is the time of year when pets go missing due to being frightened. Collars with ID and microchips are a good way of doing that and don’t forget you can register your dogs through Love Lost.

Too hot for the pups = no adoptions this Saturday. 🐾☀️

For the safety of our dogs, we will not be holding adoptions this Saturday. The heat is just too much, and their wellbeing comes first — always.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and keep those paws off the hot pavement. We’ll post updates for our next adoption event soon!

We’ll be set up outside weather permitting, but if you don’t see us when you arrive, head on inside — we’re likely keeping the pups cool and comfortable indoors.

Our rescue is still packed with amazing dogs looking for homes, and every adoption opens a space for another dog in need.
