Yesterday afternoon I received a much anticipated piece of great news. JR, Bill and I have been trying to get clearance from the city for a building permit which will allow us to make our business bigger and better, and yesterday it HAPPENED! It will take time but we will be adding more kennels for boarding!! No more”sorry we are completely full”, no more waitlist for a cancellation, just “tell me your dates, I’ve got availability!” Hopefully by the summer we will be pulling our hair out, but you can leave town and be worry free. YEA!!
Thank you all for this dream come true. Without you and your pets, well, be would be board🙌🐾🤣

In conclusion, this study shows that the risk of cranial cruciate ligament disease in dogs is linked to how long they are exposed to natural s*x hormones, and the relationship isn’t simple or linear. The highest risk was seen when females were spayed before about 1054 days (just under 3 years) and males before about 805 days (a little over 2 years). These results may help define what counts as “early” spay or neuter when it comes to cranial cruciate ligament disease risk.

Veterinary reproduction specialists now recommend hormone-preserving sterilization: preventing unwanted litters & less risk of torn cruciates.

Just in case you have ever wondered…..

With thanks to Sophie Carter:

Did you know that the tiny vertical groove between a dog’s nose and upper lip actually has a purpose? It’s called the vegetal groove (or philtrum), and it’s not there by accident!
Each time a dog licks its lips, a bit of saliva collects in that groove. Through a process called capillarization, the moisture travels up to the nose — helping keep it damp.
And why does that matter? Because a moist nose is much better at capturing and holding scents from the air. 🌬️✨ That’s part of what makes a dog’s sense of smell so incredibly powerful!
Nature’s design is always so clever, isn’t it? 🐕💛

I will not be at work the rest of the week. Camry had her puppies this morning/afternoon. There are three orange and white boys and two orange and white girls. Camry’s big surprise for me and her grand finale was a liver and white girl! Everyone is settled in and doing great!🐾❤️🐾

I have finally gotten caught up with my bookkeeping at work, and caught up with my sleep so I will give you my report of the AKC National Rally Competition that Emily, Kelly and I attended in Gray Smmitt, Mo.
The drive was beautiful and rather uneventful through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and finally Missouri. To keep ourselves occupied, Emily and I spent our time identifying and keeping tack of dead critters on the side of the road. Armadillos won with a total of nine. I thought they lived mostly in Texas, but boy was I wrong!
Emily with her Corgi, Honey and Kelly with her Standard Poodle, Falkor both showed the first two days. I could not have been prouder of these two young ladies and their dogs. There were scores of 100, and 95. They each ran their dogs three times. The crowds at ringside were amazing. There was all kinds of noise and even one German Shepherd who decided to leave its handler jumping over the ring gates, going through two other rings, which had other dog and handlers exhibiting and all the way back to its crate! All the while people were screaming “Loose Dog!” The girls were not shaken at all.
Hailey and I did not show until Friday and Saturday. We showed four times. We started with what became a very common score of 90, due to a sign called send to jump, which also had the broad jump. Next time in 100! The next day my head was being taken over with thoughts of my brother, who was in hospice. My head did not want to be in those rings. We walked out of the ring with a very questionable 88. I still think it should have been a 98, so I will never show under that judge again. It was not just my run that was questionable, but several. So between my brother’s situation and my anger, I decided to be marked absent for my last run.
Early Monday morning I got the I got the call I was dreading. Ken had passed away. This trip was the hardest I have been on in all my years on the road. I am glad to be home. Enjoy a few photos!
