Through Every Season, They Depend on Us
At Fostering Love Rescues here in Colorado, the seasons aren’t just weather — they shape every part of how we keep our animals safe, fed, and healthy.
⸻
Summer
In Colorado, summer heat is unforgiving. Horses and goats can drink 10–20 gallons of water a day — our herd can go through hundreds of gallons daily.
Drought dries up pastures, forcing us to feed hay all year when grass should be growing.
And the flies? They’re relentless. One fly can lay hundreds of eggs, turning into infections, swollen eyes, and stress that weakens our rescues.
Sponsor Summer: $50 = fly masks for 2 horses.
$100 = electrolytes for the herd during heat waves.
⸻
Fall
Colorado fall is beautiful, but it’s also preparation time.
Pastures brown early, and hay prices spike as ranchers stockpile for winter. A single semi-load of hay can cost $5,000–$10,000 depending on drought conditions.
Fall is when we feel the pressure to secure feed before snow hits, knowing shortages can leave sanctuaries scrambling.
Sponsor Fall: $150 = a week of hay for the herd.
$500 = a truckload to prepare for winter.
⸻
Winter
Snowstorms freeze water troughs, requiring hours of breaking ice daily.
Our horses burn extra calories just to stay warm, doubling their hay needs.
Medical issues like arthritis flare in the cold, and it takes grit to push through the long nights.
Sponsor Winter: $75 = heated water troughs for a week.
$200 = extra hay to keep rescues warm.
⸻
Spring
As the land thaws, parasites return.
Flies, ticks, and mud bring hoof infections and vet visits.
Many rescues still need recovery from the winter’s strain. Spring is a season of healing, but also high medical care.
Sponsor Spring: $60 = vet care for seasonal hoof checks.
$120 = dewormer for the herd.

Every season in Colorado brings a new battle — heat, drought, snow, or pests.
But every season also brings a new chance for you to stand beside us.
