Congratulations! Fido and Fluffy now get to have less sun exposure and perhaps a little doggie sunscreen! All goofiness aside, let's once again touch base on a sensitive subject. Matted/tangled/impacted/pelted pets!
While double coated breeds technically shouldn't be clipped down, unfortunately some conditions require doing so for your pet's ultimate comfort.
Your dog's coat is meant to protect them however when they are matted/tangled/impacted/pelted, that is far from possible.
Their coats are meant to raise in warmer environments to allow air flow to the skin in order to help regulate their temp and cool them down, with these less ideal conditions, they will not be able to do so properly. In cooler environments, the coat lowers to help insulate and keep that body heat contained to keep them warm. Sadly, due to lack of proper maintenance, the damage has accumulated and is irreversible!
With these conditions, groomers sometimes see bruising(hematoma), skin sores, hot spots, parasites, not to mention the pet will act completely different in some cases as they went from carrying all of that weight and tension plus in some cases have not been properly groomed in some time to a naked creature. Naked and afraid is a thing!
These conditions are costly to address, we wish shaving them down was the "easy route" however it is far from it. Shaving down these coats takes extra time rather than brushing and providing a desirable cut. In some cases, opens us up for increases bite risk as it is painful for the pet and they are going to communicate that to us!
While we understand it's not desireable, please understand that your pet's comfort and happiness are our top priority. Our groomers are not in the business of torturing your pet by endless dematting which includes excessive pulling regardless of the groomer's best efforts to move slowly and gently.
