Happy Dogust Day!

Dogust is the name given to August 1st, which is designated as the universal birthday for shelter dogs whose actual birthdates are unknown. It's a day to celebrate and honor these dogs and the shelters and rescues that work to find them homes.
What is Dogust?
Dogust is a fun and heartwarming way to celebrate all shelter dogs.
It's an initiative started by the North Shore Animal League America to give shelter dogs a special day, since many don't have official birth records, according to multiple shelter websites.
The day also helps raise awareness for adoption and the work of shelters and rescue organizations.
How to celebrate Dogust:
Adopt: Consider opening your home to a shelter dog on this special day.
Donate: Support your local shelter or rescue with supplies, money, or your time.
Celebrate with your own dog: If you have a dog with a known birthday, you can still celebrate Dogust as a universal dog birthday.
Share: Spread the word about Dogust on social media and encourage others to participate.
Organize a dog-friendly event: Consider hosting a playdate, walk, or other fun activity for dogs and their owners.
Spoil your dog: Treat your pup to a new toy, a special treat, or a day at the groomer.

Consider adopting your next pet from your local shelter. Many wonderful pets are just waiting for you to visit!

We would like to take a moment to show off our new bench. It was donated by Darlys Pexa and beautifully crafted by the High Plains Curmudgeon Society, in memory of Tom Hill. This is a beautiful gift all visitors to the shelter can appreciate while visiting with our dogs in the yard. Thank you!

Happy 4th of July, Laramie! A few tips for pet owners today.
Keep a collar and ID tags on all pets. This is your pet's ticket home.
Make sure all microchips are properly registered. The shelter will search to the end of the earth to find who that pet belongs to, but a properly registered chip makes it easy for everyone!
If your pet is prone to have issues with loud noise, secure them in a room for containment. If you have an air conditioner, or fan, turn that on for white noise. A radio is also helpful.
If the vet has given your pet drugs to calm them, make sure to give said drugs at the proper time for maximum effect.

If all else fails and your pet gets loose, make your first call to the animal shelter, 307-721-5385 so staff can identify pets that come in over this long weekend.

Girl Scout troop #1169 made goodie bags for our adoptable dogs and cats. They had toys, treats and information about caring for the pet. ( they also took pity on starving Animal Control officers with a donation of cookies!) Thank you for thinking about all of us!

We still have some free dog food here in the lobby at the shelter. Come in and ask for a bag!
