☀️🐾 Michigan summer weather has arrived, and we wanted to share an important reminder!

Leaving an animal confined in a vehicle when weather conditions may endanger its health is strictly prohibited. Even on mild days, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise quickly and become life-threatening.

If you’re running around town or even just making a quick stop, please leave your furry friend safely at home. A few extra minutes of planning can save their life.

🐶🐱 June is National Microchip Awareness Month

Microchipping is one of the most effective ways to help lost pets find their way back home. A microchip provides permanent identification that cannot be lost, removed, or damaged and can be scanned by animal shelters and veterinary clinics nationwide.

However, a microchip is only as effective as the information attached to it.

Recently, a majority of the microchipped dogs coming into Lapeer County Animal Control have had outdated or incorrect contact information on their microchip registrations. This can make it difficult and sometimes impossible to reunite pets with their families.

We encourage all pet owners to:
✅ Microchip your dog or cat if not already!
✅ Verify that your pet’s microchip is registered
✅ Check that your phone number, address, and emergency contacts are current
✅ Update your information if you have moved or changed phone numbers
✅ Make sure newly adopted pets have the microchip transferred into your name

Taking just a few minutes to review and update your pet’s registration could make all the difference if they ever become lost.

JUNIPER🌸
🛑STILL AVAILABLE🛑
Do you remember Juniper? She came in as a stray and had puppies named after trees. Those puppies have been adopted out some time ago, but Mama Juniper is still available. She's being fostered by Central Dispatch. They have only wonderful things to say about her. She is spoiled, has her own chair, loves attention and treats.
She is very shy with people and needs time to trust, so her adopter may want to come to see her more than once to build up a bond with her before adopting. She has been spayed now and had cherry eye surgery, so she is ready for a home. Come and meet her, she is so, so sweet!💗
Juniper's adoption fee is completely sponsored. 😊

A very special thank you to Chase D., a senior at Lapeer High School, for choosing to fundraise for our shelter. Through his hard work and generosity, Chase raised over $750 in monetary and wishlist donations to support the animals in our care.

We are incredibly grateful for his compassion and for going above and beyond to help the shelter animals!

BOWIE🥰
🛑STILL AVAILABLE🛑
Bowie is a sweet, very shy boy that will need someone to take their time with him so he will trust them and build his confidence. He hides under his cot sometimes, it's sad but he's doing better with staff and volunteers. His play partner Peep was adopted and he does good with other dogs, so he's looking for a new active playmate. Bowie will benefit from obedience training, he does know sit. He pulls quite a bit so he could use some leash training.
Fill out the adoption application and come and meet him.
