Dog Wash update
Correction. There are two dog washing stations. I met with the manager and gave some suggestions. Please be patient while they continue to gather all the supplies (floor squeegee, broom, dust pan for the hair). There is a janitor that stays close by but do what you can to keep it clean for the next dog. Please read and pass on the dog wash rules.

Fair warning. No matter how many times you walk the dog before you come to the wash, some of the dogs are going to get scared and p**p and/or p*e at all the strange equipment. This is normal. It happens on a regular basis in the grooming shops. Don't get embarrassed or mad at your dog. Just do the best you can to pick up the p**p and let someone know there's p*e in the floor. Lucky the janitor will mop after you leave.

Skunk preparedness from Glenna the Groomer:

Skunks don't hibernate. They can't get to the grubs and bugs they like to eat so they need to search out the bird feeders and suet. A lot of my neighbors have chickens and skunks would love to get a hold of some eggs. Dogs don't care about the smell until their face is up the skunk's butts and the oil is on their face, nasal passages, ear canal and all the hair it can reach.

1: Don't let them in the house if you can avoid it. They will rub that oily stink all over your carpet and furniture. If you have to bring them in put them in the bathroom where the tile is easy to clean.

2. Keep enough baby powder on hand to cover them until they are caked with it. It will soak up the oil. It'll keep the oil from spreading and smells much better. You can powder them outside.

3. Call the groomer. If you want to tackle the bath by yourself get the peroxide/dawn/baking soda formula off the internet. Keep peroxide and baking soda on hand with your baby powder in your emergency skunk kit. Put mineral oil or some kind of veggie oil in their eyes to protect from the peroxide. I would recommend wearing gloves (from you kit). The peroxide will irritate your skin. Cover the dog thoroughly with the mixture. Wipe it on to the face with a cloth. Wipe inside the ears.

4. Leave the formula on for 10-15 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

There will be a slight residual smell when they get damp or wet. The oil immediately soaks in to the cuticle of the hair shaft at the skunk encounter. It will wear off. It is up their nose but will clear out in a day or so. If the smell is still strong on their face wipe Listerine with a cloth on their face and ear canal. Good Luck.
