🐾 May is Lyme Disease Prevention Month 🐾
Even though Lyme Disease Prevention Month is coming to an end, the importance of protecting your pets from ticks is far from over. Tick activity continues through the warmer months, and we are still seeing positive cases of tick-borne illnesses in dogs.
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted through the bite of an infected tick. Once attached, ticks can pass harmful diseases to your pet that may lead to serious health issues if not caught early. While some dogs may not show symptoms right away, others can become very sick.
Common signs of Lyme disease in dogs include:
🦴 Joint pain or limping
😴 Fatigue or decreased activity
🌡 Fever
🍽 Loss of appetite
🐕 Swollen joints or stiffness
💧 In severe cases, kidney complications can occur
Ticks are commonly found in:
🌿 Tall grass
🍂 Wooded areas
🏡 Your own backyard
👖 And yes people can accidentally bring ticks inside on their clothing, shoes, or gear, putting indoor pets at risk too.
Prevention is one of the best ways to protect your dog:
✔ Keep your pet on monthly flea & tick prevention
✔ Check your pet daily for ticks, especially after being outdoors
✔ Ask us about annual tick-borne disease testing
✔ Remove ticks quickly and properly if found
Remember it only takes ONE infected tick bite to transmit disease. Even pets that spend most of their time indoors can still be exposed.
