🌟🐾 Pet of the Week: Ophelia 🐾🌟

If cuteness was a competition, Ophelia would win every single time. 💕 This precious little girl came to see us within the last couple weeks, and we’re still not over those big round eyes and tiny folded ears! 🥹🐱

She may be small, but her personality is already larger than life. From her adorable poses to her sweet little face, Ophelia made herself right at home with our staff. 💖

We think she deserves ALL the love this week! Drop a 🩶 in the comments for Ophelia and tell us what treat you think this tiny queen would demand. 👑✨

🐾 May is Lyme Disease Prevention Month 🐾

Even though Lyme Disease Prevention Month is coming to an end, the importance of protecting your pets from ticks is far from over. Tick activity continues through the warmer months, and we are still seeing positive cases of tick-borne illnesses in dogs.

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted through the bite of an infected tick. Once attached, ticks can pass harmful diseases to your pet that may lead to serious health issues if not caught early. While some dogs may not show symptoms right away, others can become very sick.

Common signs of Lyme disease in dogs include:
🦴 Joint pain or limping
😴 Fatigue or decreased activity
🌡 Fever
🍽 Loss of appetite
🐕 Swollen joints or stiffness
💧 In severe cases, kidney complications can occur

Ticks are commonly found in:
🌿 Tall grass
🍂 Wooded areas
🏡 Your own backyard
👖 And yes people can accidentally bring ticks inside on their clothing, shoes, or gear, putting indoor pets at risk too.

Prevention is one of the best ways to protect your dog:
✔ Keep your pet on monthly flea & tick prevention
✔ Check your pet daily for ticks, especially after being outdoors
✔ Ask us about annual tick-borne disease testing
✔ Remove ticks quickly and properly if found

Remember it only takes ONE infected tick bite to transmit disease. Even pets that spend most of their time indoors can still be exposed.

If you have questions about Lyme disease, prevention options, or testing, give us a call. We are always here to help keep your pets protected and healthy. 💚🐾

We want to share a quick but important update from our clinic and continue bringing awareness to what we are seeing in our area.

Each gem in our jar represents a confirmed POSITIVE case of a tick-borne illness in patients who came in SHOWING SYMPTOMS over the past month. 💎

Unfortunately, these numbers continue to rise:

‼️Cytauxzoonosis: 5
‼️ Lyme Disease: 16
‼️ Ehrlichia: 8
‼️ Anaplasmosis: 5

Tick-borne diseases can vary in severity, but early detection is very important. Many pets may not show obvious signs at first, which is why we want to keep this information in front of our community. 🐶🐱

Because of this, we would recommend considering a tick-borne disease test if your pet is showing any signs of illness or if you would simply like peace of mind. If you’d like to have your pet tested, please let us know we’re happy to help get that scheduled and answer any questions. ❤️

We also strongly encourage keeping pets on consistent tick prevention year-round, as prevention is one of the best protections we have.

✨ Do You Remember May? ✨

Several days ago, we received a message that truly touched our hearts.

Many of you may remember May? the rescue dog who came to us needing extensive care and support. So many people in our community prayed for her, donated toward her care, and followed along with her journey every step of the way. ❤️

Her owner reached out to let us know just how amazing May now called “Mae” is doing. She shared that Mae is “the happiest dog and so special to our family.” She now has a loving home, a big sister, and a family that absolutely adores her.

Her owner told us she wanted to send us an update because she imagined those of us in veterinary medicine often wonder what happens to the animals we help care for after they leave our clinic. And honestly… she was right. Updates like this mean more to us than words can say.

To everyone who donated, prayed, shared her story, or supported her along the way thank you. Because of your compassion, this sweet girl got the second chance she deserved. 🐾

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

“Blessed to be able to help.” 💕

We are beyond grateful for Dumas Rescue! They helped bring this sweet girl to us so she could get the care she needed!!

To donate to this rescue and help more animals like “Mae” reach out to us at 606-285-9913 and inform us you’d like to donate on there account.

This jar may look simple, but it tells an important story. Each gem inside represents a positive case of tick-borne illness we’ve diagnosed in our clinic since April 13th… and it’s growing quickly.

❤️ Red = Lyme Disease
💙 Blue = Ehrlichia
🤍 Clear = Anaplasmosis
🤍 Pearl = Cytauxzoonosis

We are seeing a significant rise in tick-borne diseases in our area, and this is your reminder that prevention truly matters.

🛑 Keep your pets protected year-round with flea & tick prevention
🛑 Don’t wait until you see a tick—by then, exposure has already happened

If you’re unsure what prevention is best for your pet, we’re here to help! Let’s keep those gems out of the jar and your pets safe. 🐶🐱💙
