I offer virtual dog training, which generally throws people off because, "how can you train online". Well, it actually turns out to be a better option for most owners than in-person. There is more freedom in scheduling because you don't have to leave your own home. You and your pup have the comfort of your own home, your own space, so it eases anxiety of having another environment or person with you. A little about what I do: I help owners train their pups by guiding owners through understanding the behaviors and actions of their fur babies. Training isn't just about getting your pup to do something you want them to do, but developing a strong bond and seeing what your pup needs. In order to train, you have to understand them first and they have to feel safe with you. I can help with anything from puppyhood to adulthood, basic commands to behavior issues and reactivity. With the upcoming holiday upon us, I wanted to offer some tips for the poor pups who don't do well with fireworks and/or thunderstorms:

Do not ignore your dog, they are fearful and panicking, give them whatever comfort they are seeking

Having a "safe haven" for them to hide out in; This can be a room, a large closet, or a basement with their comfort items (bed, blankets, favorite toy, etc.)

Having a light on in the room may also help to minimize the visual impact

Background noise loud enough to drown out the thunder and/or fireworks

Thundershirt might be helpful but this isn't for every dog

Anti-anxiety meds (talk to vet to get recommendations), helps more for known events coming up (i.e. July 4th; weather calls for storms all night or day, etc.)

Pheromone therapy (Adaptil) might work for some dogs but not all
