What is the best age to start dog training classes? Most puppies should start puppy socialization by 8 weeks of age and actual training classes by 12–16 weeks. Dogs 5 months and older are candidates for our Beginner Class.

Perhaps your dog already knows the basics, and you want to take it to the next level. Then PetSmart's Intermediate Training Course would be appropriate. The class is for dogs who know the basic commands but need to practice those behaviors with added distractions.

And, it's never too late to teach an older dog new tricks. Our Beginners Class is designed for dogs 5 months and older, and if your dog knows the "basics", perhaps the lessons taught in our Intermediate class would be a good fit

Teaching Your Dog “Tricks” is More Than Just Having Fun

PetSmart’s Trick Training Class is a fun 6-week course for dogs that teaches specific behaviors for entertainment and physical well-being. Training extends beyond basic obedience commands, with some tricks more complex than others. Dogs enrolled in this class need to know sit, down and wait in order to learn the tricks taught. The dates for a “Trick Training Course” are NOT listed on the PetSmart website. The trainer will work with applicants to set dates that work for them.
