BNT Ryder and Ranger doing some obedience training together before they go home!

BNT Ryder a 5 month old Australian Shepherd enjoying his place cot during our training session.

Why do I as a dog trainer think it’s important to teach this command?

I strongly believe when taught correctly it gives the dog a piece of comfort no matter what environment they are in. I move the place cot all around my ranch in places where there’s loud noises, chickens, horses getting trained and inside the house. Though it is not ideal in certain situations depending on the lifestyle of the owner. I tailor each training to the specific needs of my clients.

Ryder has a lot of anxiety and this style of training has helped him tremendously with calming his nerves and teaching him how to respond versus react.

God bless!!!

We took Ranger to Tractor Supply to expose him to a new environment outside of my ranch. We first walked him around to get him comfortable with his surroundings prior to training. This is important so that we don’t cause any unwanted behavior or nervousness when we do start training. As you can see through the video he walked around with confidence and curiosity which I love to see. Sarah did a great job handling this pup and testing his limitations!

Good morning Everyone! I hope yall are all staying safe and warm with this bad weather we got!

This was my final training session with Roxy. I took her out to our local tractor supply for some off site training. Adding variables that she will see after leaving training. She did awesome! I take pride in understanding the needs of my clients and what exactly they need for their dog to be a successful part of their daily lives. We specifically worked on distractions and impulse control with Roxy making sure she fully understands what is being asked of her with clear communication!

Adding Variables to the “PLACE” command. Why is it important? It helps solidify the behavior and show the dog the full picture. I enjoy proofing the behaviors I train because I can get as creative as I would like. There’s no boundaries! Though proofing a behavior takes alot longer than two weeks. Roxy will be set up with a solid foundation and her owner will be getting hands on training as well in the next few days!

NEW B&T ALERT!! This is Ranger, a 5-month-old pup, here for a 2-week Board and Train. Throughout these two weeks, Ranger will be learning basic obedience, socialization with other dogs, as he can be a little reactive, and will be shown different environments to build confidence!! I’m excited to see his transition in the next two weeks of training 🐕

Week update on Roxy! Started to introduce the “place” command using a dog cot. This command is useful in many ways. Whether it’s to get your dog to relax in the house or having them outside, even in public places! This command teaches the dog to remain calm in many situations and not react to their environment when distractions are added. Eventually the dog becaines conditioned by the reinforcement they get when making the right decision.
