THE POST I NEVER THOUGHT I'D HAVE TO MAKE AGAIN.
The year was 1994, and Villalobos had just become an official "Pit Bull Rescue." Although we had been rescuing wolfdogs and wolves for years prior, it was the shift in taking in the world's most "notorious" breed of dog that would cement our place in the dog world: bad or good.
For years we struggled. It wasn't easy trying to raise donations for dogs that society feared both in myth and media. In 2006, we were getting ready to announce that VRC would be closing our doors due to lack of donations.
Then, like a gift from the Gods above, we were bestowed with the idea of having our own TV show; controversial as it was. Somebody was looking out for us!
We were pleasantly surprised when the Pit Bull world embraced us, starving for anything that would put their beloved dogs in a good light. And it is because of all of you that we became the longest-running show in Animal Planet history, lasting 13 years.
But now, the show is over, but the rescue is not. Sadly, VRC has become out of sight, out of mind, and donations are down to a trickle. :(
Luckily, we still have a good adoption rate, and between our one rescue transport partner and prison dog program, we are getting dogs out at a good rate. But intake is always larger than outtake. :(
And of course, the bills still keep coming; vet, employees, utilities, etc, etc. Every rescue or shelter, reading this post feels our pain. We are all in the same sinking boat.
We are continuing to work on our social media platforms with the hope that they will be able to sustain our rescue efforts, but we aren't quite there yet. That's why I now have to ask that uncomfortable question; can y'all help us?
If you can spare any change, it would be appreciated more than I can express with my words. Just know that every cent goes 100% to the dogs who at one time, were hated by society. But no more. Again, thanks to all of you.
We have several ways to donate: https://vrcpitbull.com/how-you-can-help/donations/
It takes a village.
