While I agree the farel cat population is horrible with in city limits I can not stand to see innocent cats be killed due to human negligence of not getting them fixed, if you can help our shelter in anyway to adopt these cat in their care please do! If you have an colony you have been getting fixed and taking care of call them to get info on how to register them!
🚨 Cat Crisis: Trapping Will Begin – Please Read 🚨
Due to an overwhelming number of complaints about nuisance cats and flea infestations, the city will begin actively trapping cats—whether the shelter has space or not.(We currently have 65 cats in our care!!) If you allow your cats to roam, they may be trapped and could be euthanized if we do not have an open cage. Our shelter is already over capacity and we simply do not have the resources to house a large influx of cats. This is not something we want to do—but it is now necessary.
Here’s what the community must understand and do to help:
🐾 Keep Your Owned Cats Contained
If your cat is friendly, social, and belongs to you—it needs to stay indoors or be contained to your property per Lampasas City Ordinance. Roaming owned cats are not protected and may be picked up during trapping operations. They will not be assumed to have an owner.
🐾 Community Cats Must Be Registered
Community cats (unsocialized/feral cats) are only protected from trapping if they are part of a registered colony with an approved caregiver. If you're feeding or caring for feral cats, you are required to register with the shelter to ensure these cats are monitored and protected. Unregistered cats will be subject to trapping and possible euthanasia.
🚫 Do Not Feed Unowned Cats
Feeding cats that aren’t yours—without spaying, neutering, or proper care—is making the situation worse. You may be attracting more unowned cats to your neighborhood and creating a public health issue. If the cat is friendly, it likely belongs to someone and should not be fed. If it’s feral, there should already be a designated, registered caregiver.
🏚️ Barn Homes Needed Urgently
We are desperate for barn homes to help relocate outdoor cats. If you have a safe outbuilding and want to give a working cat a second chance, please contact us immediately.
This is a serious situation. We don’t want to see any animal euthanized, but we cannot protect uncontained cats. We need our community to act responsibly—keep your cats home, register colonies properly, and help us find solutions.
