Dinner is more than just a meal around here! 🐾
At 7 weeks old, these puppies are enjoying dinner on a snuffle mat, which encourages them to use their noses, provides mental stimulation, and helps build confidence through problem-solving. Plus, it makes mealtime a lot more fun! ❤️

I’ve really enjoyed the last seven weeks with this litter and watching them grow. ❤️

Ali and Walden truly gave us a beautiful group of puppies. It’s amazing how much they change in such a short time, and it’s been a joy watching their personalities emerge and their structure mature each week. While I’m excited for the adventures ahead, I’m definitely going to miss these little faces when they begin heading to their new homes next week.

One little girl, however, isn’t going anywhere. 💕

Java will be staying here at Jessi’s Mini Dachshunds. She is ¾ Russian and ¼ Canadian, with multiple champions in her pedigree, and I am very excited about her future. We may even venture into the show ring together someday. For now, I’m looking forward to watching her grow and seeing what she becomes. 🖤🐾

Welcome to the family forever, Java. ❤️

Smurf’s note to self:

Nose on top. Tongue all the way down. No whipped cream mustache. 😎☕️

I had lots of messages yesterday asking what tools I use and how I dremel nails, so here’s a quick video showing my process. ❤️

I’ll drop the links to the hammock, clippers and Dremel in the comments.

I wasn’t trying to call anyone out with yesterday’s post, just sharing something that’s important to me and has worked well in my program.

I had a few questions about why I go until I see a tiny drop of🩸 The reason I do this is because frequent, careful maintenance encourages the quick to recede, which allows the nails to stay much shorter long-term. Everyone has their own comfort level, I want the nail to stay as short as possible and this is the technique I use for this.

The favorite spot is always under the slide. Every litter. Every time. I don’t know why I bother buying beds and blankets. 🐾🤣 all 5 pups are piled up under there!

Pet peeve post incoming 😂🐾

One thing that absolutely drives me crazy is seeing Dachshunds posted with nails curling halfway to the floor and longhair feet looking like little grinch slippers 😭

People don’t realize this is more than just “cosmetic.”
Long nails and overgrown foot hair actually affect the way a dog stands, walks, and moves.

When nails are too long, the foot cannot sit naturally on the ground. It changes posture, balance, traction, and movement …and in a long-backed breed, movement matters.

And those fluffy longhair feet may look cute to some people, but all that extra hair between the pads can:
• cause slipping/sliding on floors
• reduce traction when jumping
• collect dirt and debris
• mat between the toes
• trap moisture and bacteria
• make the feet spread unnaturally

I LOVE a nice clean foot on a Dachshund.
Short nails. Tight feet. Paw pads visible. Proper traction.

It’s one of the simplest things owners can do that truly improves comfort and movement for their dogs. ❤️
