The Sassy Bagel We are a small family business and we make New York style bagels that we hand roll! We sell our bagels at the farmer's market in Cary, Illinois on Sunday.

This came up in my feed and it touched me. If we want to have fresh, local foods we need to support the amazing farmers.

$250,000 for a single acre. That is what developers are offering for my farm. At first glance, it sounds like a dream. But for me, it’s a reminder of the pressure closing in on farms like mine. Our land sits in a place they call a “land shortage” area, where open fields are quickly disappearing to make way for houses and shopping centers.
My farm is 313 years old. For the past 92 years, my family has cared for it, just as three families did before us. We’ve worked these fields through good harvests and bad storms, trusting the soil to give back what we put into it. Developers visit often, talking about how many houses they could build here. But they don’t see the history, the sweat, the long nights, or the generations of love that are rooted in this ground.

Farming is not easy. It demands everything from you—your strength, your patience, your hope. Yet it’s a life I would never trade. There is a quiet joy in planting seeds, caring for them, and watching them grow into food that feeds not only my family but my neighbors too. Even in the hardest years, when nature works against us, farmers rise again with a new season ahead.

As the New Year begins, I want to ask you to add one more resolution to your list—support your local farms.

Here’s how you can make a difference:
• Cook at home more and let farm-fresh produce guide your meals.
• Buy a farm share through a CSA and invest in your local growers.
• Choose milk from nearby dairies.
• Visit farmers markets close to your home or work.
• Spend a day at a farm and meet the people who grow your food.

Once farmland is developed, it’s gone forever. The only way farms can survive is if their communities stand with them. Every choice you make at the market is a vote for the future you want—one that keeps green fields, fresh food, and hardworking farmers alive.

Let’s make that future possible. Choose local. Eat local. Support the hands that feed you.

Thank you for selling us out again this morning! We saw a lot of new faces and many bagel friends we haven’t seen for awhile! What do you want us to bring to our next sale on 8/17? Sweet corn and Rosemary sea salt are on the menu already and we’ll be making 6 inch peach pies.

Come see us this coming Sunday at the Cary Farmer’s Market! We’ll have bagels, schmears, pretzel bagel dogs and cinnamon rolls!

Our sourdough based bagels are plain, everything, garlic onion, cheddar and sesame. We’ll also be bringing pretzel and French toast (these have egg and are sweetened with maple syrup). We always bake them the morning of the market so they are at their best!

Cream cheese schmears are plain, bacon scallion, giardiniera and Michigan tart cherry jam.

We’ll have pretzel bagel dogs with “Da Works” Chicago style spice blend by . Our pretzel bagel dogs have been selling out and we can’t wait for you to try them!

Our glazed cinnamon rolls will be making an appearance too for your Sunday morning sweet fix!

We’re bringing delicious eats to the Cary Farmer’s Market this Sunday.

Bagels will include Plain, Everything, Jalepeno Cheddar, Rosemary Sea Salt, Sesame, Egg, Blueberry, Garlic Onion, Pretzel and our beloved Sweet Corn Sourdough.

Cream cheese schmears are Plain, Scallion, Pepperoncini and Nectarine Thyme. We’re bringing some whipped butters too- Honey Smoked Sea Salt and Chipotle Lime.

We’ll have limited cinnamon rolls and you sold us out of the Pretzel Dogs last time so we’re bringing those back.

Michigan Blueberries are at their peak and Mrs. Sassy Bagel is a pie baker at heart and she’ll be making six inch Michigan Blueberry double crust pies in limited amounts. Have you heard how delicious our crust is? We make it the old fashioned way with good butter and lard.

We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from the sale today! Thank you! To tell the truth, Mrs. Sassy Bagel was feeling a bit rusty with her bagel making skills after an illness earlier this year and wasn’t satisfied with the bagel quality of the first couple of markets. But today, the bagels were spot on with how we like them! We work hard to do our best every market and bring you the best product we can. Sometimes we miss the mark and other times the bagel gods are in our favor. For such a simple little bread bagels are quite difficult to make and each step is crucial to their quality. We thank you for selling us out again this week and we’ll bump up the numbers a bit next market!

We don’t know about you but we think this Sunday was hotter than last Sunday! (Is that possible??)
We had a great time seeing everyone who stopped by today to pick up some yummy bagels, cream cheese and maybe even one of our cinnamon rolls. We’ve gotten lots of amazing feedback from this week’s market and we are so happy you enjoyed your goodies from The Sassy Bagel. We work hard to make the best bagels we can!

Our next market is July 13th! Can you believe it’s already going to be July? July is blueberry bagel season! Can’t wait! See you soon!
