Meet Happy 🐶

Jack Russell Terriers were originally bred to hunt rodents, so when Happy caught a mouse last month, his owners were understandably concerned.

The good news? Most dogs who catch a mouse do just fine, especially when they’re up to date on important vaccines like rabies and leptospirosis. We become more concerned when there may be exposure to disease, toxins, or a rodent that has been deceased for an extended period of time.

Happy is doing great, and today’s visit was actually to follow up on some bloodwork findings unrelated to his mouse-catching adventure.

Routine exams and preventive care help us stay ahead of potential health concerns before they become bigger problems.

Peanut came in for limping on his right back leg, and with his history of cruciate ligament injury and luxating patellas, we’re highly suspicious of a partial ACL tear 🐾

When dogs have kneecaps that shift in and out of place, it can put extra stress on the ligaments in their knees and increase the likelihood of injury over time.

The good news is that catching these issues early can make a huge difference in pain management and long-term mobility. Treatments may include pain medication, laser therapy, acupuncture, joint supplements, rehab, or surgery depending on the severity.

If you notice your dog limping, slowing down, or struggling to get up, don’t ignore it. Early evaluation is key.
