It’s sort of the same thing when we don’t allow our dogs to fully sniff an area of interest to them. Humans learn with their eyes and ears mostly. Dogs learn with their nose.

They get to call the shots. They get to set the pace. They get to choose the route.

Most dogs want to take in the smells on a walk. When they are robbed from this opportunity, it can be frustrating to them.
