We LOVE silly, unique, and downright fun pet names—and we especially love hearing the stories behind how families come up with them! 🐾❤️ So today, we want to showcase some of those names!

Last week, one of our favorite canine names,
Mr. Tank Piggs Wrinklebottom, came in for a visit and this week we already had Lizard the kitty! Our staff has a few fun ones of their own too, including Marge, Chester Cheetos, Hiccup, and Prince Charming. 👑🐱🐶

Do you have a fun or unique pet name—or a story behind how you chose it? Drop it in the comments below! We want to hear them! 👇🐾

Today we’re saying goodbye to our wonderful vet assistant, Olivia, as she has her last day with us.

Olivia has been such a great part of our team, and we’re definitely going to miss having her around. It has been great to see her learn and grow so much in this field since she started with us! She gives some of the best dog hugs around,has mastered the art of working with our feline friends 🐱, and we can always count on her to have her caffeine close by! ☕😂 And if there’s a doodle in the building, you can pretty much guarantee Olivia is going to be their biggest fan.

Thank you, Olivia, for all the love, laughs, hard work, and of course, all those doggy hugs you’ve given our patients. We’re so grateful you were part of our team and wish you nothing but the best in whatever comes next!

We’ll miss you! 🥹🐾❤️

Mickey, a Chihuahua, and Dorothy, a 6-week-old Shih Tzu mix puppy, both stopped by this week to get their pedicures! 🐾

Did you know that many routine procedures can be scheduled with one of our veterinary nurses? These appointments are a convenient way to keep your pet comfortable and healthy while saving time. We offer appointments for services such as:
• Nail trims
• A**l gland expressions
• Arthritis injections
• Allergy injections

We’d also like to congratulate Keeley, pictured here, who will be completing her prerequisites this year before beginning the Veterinary Technician program next year! We are so excited for her as she starts this next chapter and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes. 📕🩺🐾🐴

🍂 Happy August 1st from another precious puppy named Penny that came in recently ! 🍂

It’s hard to believe summer is already starting to wind down! While the hot days, pool parties, and beach adventures may soon be behind us, we’re excited to welcome everything that fall has to offer.

As the seasons change, don’t forget that parasite prevention is still just as important! In fact, ticks are especially active during the fall months and love hiding in tall grass, wooded areas, and damp piles of fallen leaves. They can still transmit diseases so keeping your pet on year-round flea and tick prevention is one of the best ways to protect them.🦟

🍁 A friendly reminder that we continue to require 24–48 hours for all prescription refills, regardless of the season. As summer medications begin to wind down, many pets are still needing allergy medications throughout the fall. Please call ahead so we have plenty of time to prepare your pet’s prescriptions.

🐾 Happy Wednesday from Penny! 🐾

Say hello to Penny, a 10-week-old Newfoundland who already resembles the size of a 16-week-old puppy… or maybe even a tiny black bear! 🐻❤️ We have loved meeting so many adorable puppies this summer and watching them grow is one of our favorite parts of the job!

☀️ Summer Safety Reminder ☀️

Hot weather can become dangerous for pets much faster than many people realize. Dogs don’t sweat like we do—they primarily cool themselves by panting and through their paw pads, making them more susceptible to overheating.

Here are some reminders:
•Provid plenty of fresh water and access to shade.
•Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside a car can become life-threatening within minutes.
•Check the pavement before walks. If it’s too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.
•Plan walks during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
•Watch for signs of heatstroke which include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, bright red gums, or collapse. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cool area and contact us or an emergency clinic immediately.

We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and tail-wagging summer! 🩵🐶

And we couldn’t pick just one photo of Penny so enjoy her mini photo shoot she had during her peanut butter enrichment time with us after her vaccines.

Meet Raphael! 🐾

This adorable Golden Retriever puppy recently visited us for his very first exam. We love making our patients’ visits as positive and stress-free as possible so when it’s safe and approved by their family, we like to offer a little peanut butter. We use this as enrichment during vaccines to help distract them and create a more enjoyable experience. Raphael thought it was the perfect treat! 🥜

Welcome to the OAH family, Raphael! We can’t wait to watch you grow. 🐶

Let’s talk vaccines!! 💉💉
Vaccines are an important part in keeping your pet healthy especially the first year. Here’s a breakdown of the core puppy vaccination schedule, but note timing can vary depending on your pups first vaccine.

6–8 weeks

* DHPP/DAPP #1- protects against:
* Distemper
* Adenovirus (Hepatitis)
* Parvovirus
* Parainfluenza

* F***l exam and deworming are also commonly recommended at the first visit so please bring a fresh sample for us! 💩

9–12 weeks

* DHPP/DAPP #2
* Leptospirosis #1 - a vaccine protecting your pet from a bacterial disease transmitted though urine, soil, or water of infected animals.
* Bordetella (Kennel Cough) - If your puppy will be groomed, boarded, attend daycare, training classes, dog parks, or other social settings.

12–16 weeks

* DHPP/DAPP #3 (sometimes a fourth booster is needed depending on when the series started)
* Leptospirosis #2
* Rabies (required by law in most areas; typically given between 12–16 weeks)

16–20 weeks (if needed)

* Final DHPP/DAPP booster if the previous dose was given before 16 weeks of age.

🩺 Optional Lifestyle Vaccines- Depending on your puppy’s lifestyle, we offer:

* Lyme – for dogs in tick-prone areas.
* Canine Influenza (Dog Flu) – for dogs that are frequently around other dogs, boarding, grooming, daycare, etc.

This schedule helps protect puppies while their immune systems are developing and as maternal antibodies wear off. After the first year, we recommend yearly exam, bloodwork, and vaccines which are all based on your dog’s age, health, lifestyle, and local disease risks.

Pictured below is Lottie, with our wonderful assistant Olivia, who came in last week and got all her vaccines boostered, including her Lyme vaccine. She will be coming in for “happy puppy” visits which are to just say hello to us and get treats for socialization. 🐾🦴
