☀️ Happy June! ☀️

We have been patient and waited for the warmer weather and these longer summer days, but rising temperatures can pose serious risks for our pets. As temperatures increase, make sure your pets stay cool, comfortable, and hydrated. Avoid excessive exercise during the hottest parts of the day and remember that pavement can become dangerously hot and burn sensitive paw pads.

Summer also brings an increase in:
-Fleas and ticks
-Allergies, hot spots, and skin issues
-Injuries and wounds ( which can cause fly strike and other wound complications)

We are here Monday- Saturdays to answer any of your questions and help care for your pets needs.

To kick off the month of June, we HAD to share Brodie, who had his first visit with us. He is a maltese/poodle mix who barely reached 3lbs and gave our staff wonderful puppy kisses.

Happy Friday!
We had double the puppy trouble this week with Cooper the cocker spaniel and Coco the Australian Shepherd stopping by for vaccines and to apparently make our workday a little cuter 🐾

Cooper brought the floppy cocker ears and sweet cuddles, while Coco brought the energy and curious attitude. We’re pretty sure puppies should count as emotional support staff around here.

Make sure your puppies are on proper prevention, get proper socialization, and receive all the proper lovin!

Tick season is a bad one already this Spring and they are more than just a creepy nuisance — they can carry diseases that affect both pets and people. The tricky part is that they don’t just live deep in the woods anymore. They can be found in backyards, parks, tall grass, leaf piles, and even on your everyday neighborhood walks.

A few ways to help protect your pets:
• Keep pets on monthly flea/tick prevention YEAR-ROUND.
• Check your pets after being outdoors, especially around ears, neck, toes, and under collars.
• Keep grass trimmed and remove leaf debris when possible.
• Contact us if you find a tick or notice side effects such as lethargy, limping, fever, or decreased appetite.

Butters, who was photographed and posted earlier wanting to help us discuss fireworks and anxiety, is a pretty well-known face around here. He belongs to Kristin, one of our awesome receptionists, and he also happens to be incredibly photogenic.

Along with the photo we originally took, we snapped this one too and thought it was perfectly fitting for the occasion and after a rainy day, we could all use a smile.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, please remember that fireworks can be stressful
and terrifying for our pets. Every year, shelters and clinics see an increase in lost pets and anxiety-related emergencies during holiday weekends. 🇺🇸

If you need a medication refilled, please contact us this week. We will be CLOSED this Saturday May 23 - Monday May 25 for the holiday weekend.

A few important reminders for Holidays:
• Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date.
• Double check that microchip information is current.
• Keep pets indoors during fireworks, even if they normally do well outside.
• Close windows, blinds, and curtains to help muffle noise and provide a safe and quiet space to help your pet feel secure.
• Avoid bringing pets to fireworks events.

Spring is beautiful… unless you deal with allergies. 🥴🌼🤧🌸

Just like people, animals can suffer from seasonal allergies caused by pollen, grass, mold, dust, and environmental changes. But instead of sneezing nonstop, pets often show allergies through their skin and ears.

Common signs include:
• Excessive licking or chewing paws
• Red or itchy skin
• Ear infections or head shaking
• Scooting or skin odor
• Hair loss or hot spots
• Watery eyes or sneezing

Chronic inflammation can lead to skin infections and ongoing discomfort if left untreated. Allergies are very common and there are many ways we can help keep pets comfortable — from medications and prescription diets to allergy injections, or medicated baths.

And reminder: Animals with allergies still need regular flea prevention and they can even develop flea allergy dermatitis. One flea bite can make an allergy animal miserable for weeks. If your pet suddenly seems extra itchy this season, don’t ignore it. 💚🐾

Terra the husky was recently seen and treated for a hot spot on her back leg that she was chewing on. With a topical spray, oral antibiotics, and a cute donut collar to prevent chewing- it should be healed up soon!

Due to a water main break in Lake Orion, our public restroom WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! Our hospital will remain open and fully functional for pet care at this time. We are so sorry for the inconvenience and will re-open the restroom as soon as we have water. Wish us all luck!

We work with many animals in many aspects but one of the things we’re proud of at our clinic is the way we support local rescues. 🐾

From initial exams and vaccines to diagnostics, treatments, surgeries, and all the little things in between — we work closely with rescue groups to help give these animals the healthy start they deserve. It truly takes a team, and we’re honored to be a small part of their journey.

Recently, we met a special dog named Momma June who has been in foster care for over a year.
She was treated for heartworm disease and spayed after having puppies. She does have separation anxiety but is being worked with for it. Learning to trust may take some time, but she’s looking for her person and waiting for her forever home . 💔

Long-term fosters can get overlooked, but they are often the most loyal, loving companions. Sometimes they just need a little extra time and the right person.

If you want to learn more about Momma June please reach out to Rejoyceful Animal Rescue!
