Said goodbye to one of my own recently, it was planned as his health and quality of life were on the decline. Here is his story π
12/2/2024 π Tacker went to Heaven
Zack Attack OTTB Master Cat 2003
π― Best Friend to Squish πΆοΈ
π€΅ββοΈ Husband to Tulipπ·
π Retired momentary lesson horse
π₯° Loved his job and could be trusted (and forward π€£) with the greenest rider asked of him to carry.
π I recall he walked on the buckle with a brave visiting 4 year old all around the arena teaching him to turn and halt.
β€οΈ π€ Arena was his happy place, really! A bomb could go off and heβd still get his strides carefully.
π³ Once we rode down the trail with a lesson group and he was solid until we turned around home then ZOOM ποΈ π¨ π¨ π¨ He was a Gentleman π about prancing in a frame 18 inches higher than normal and snorting a mile homeπ₯ π 3,749 half halts later we were back at the barn both of us swearing we would never do that again.
After 2 months in a stepdown job he started shutting down physically. My attempts to vet, treat and rehab him were not helping him be more comfortable under saddle. In a miracle, we were soon moving to the perfect place for his 5 year retirement! β€οΈβπ©Ή
π€ While he was here he got a visit from his former longtime owner, which was great for them both π€ π΄
Tacker & Squish BFFs Forever β€οΈ π΄ π΄ β€οΈ
Since day one, they were best friends. Doing laps running cavalletti races in the arena jumping side by side when they met. (video clip in comments). Sharing every pasture session since then, playing, grooming each other, being chompers and sometimes rowdy yet always inseparable neighbors.
π§οΈ π¦ Tacker loved playing in the water making mud then splashing it all over himself and the fence! π₯Ή
I always wanted to build him a proper splash pool and fretted over the perfect design and didnβt get around to it.
β€οΈβπ©Ή Gentlest buddy, you welcomed so many horses to our herd. I could always trust you helping the new ones acclimate next to you and in the turnouts.
π Acted like a stallion whenever a new mare would arrive, run and rear and stomp and roll covering himself in dust. And the mares always gave him notice with his long thick mane and bascule.
He was always handsome and Vets π©Ί mistook him for WB on his chart when he was in condition π
Zack Attack we all miss your kindness here on the farm. I promise this year we will make a splash pool in your honor Tacker. Weβre spending extra time with your BFF and he has a new buddy to bond with: gentle like you and OTTB to keep Squish on his toes π
Gallop forever, youβre the bestest boy β€οΈ π
Love, Mom
