What a day!
These two girls showed up for me today and I couldn’t be more proud of these two dogs. Was it perfect, far from it. Did I pay some tuition today and learn a thing or two about my dogs, absolutely.
At the end of today, I left with an appreciation for both of these dogs, despite different scores and different struggles. We came in with different yet similar goals. For Sigi, my hope was another prize 1 and to punch another ticket for chance to run at the invite. For Frankie, we wanted improvement and for me to show up as the handler she needed after our first utility run in July didn’t go that well. But all in all, I wanted to be the handler that both dogs needed and to enjoy our time afield.
Proud to say, we achieved what we set out to do, in more ways than the scores read aloud at the end of the day. I’m in awe of the workhorse that Sigi is and her ability to show up, just over 3.5 months after giving birth, to put up a great run today.
And Frankie, my Frankie Lynn, oh the gains you’ve made since a little over a month ago at our first run at Utility! She and I had some bobbles in the field and I learned a lot about how to be a better handler for her and what she needs. i also learned about what i need to do to help her handle complex bird work. But she made big strides in duck search and even bigger ones at the blind and retrieve sequence. It was fun to see her work today and I couldn’t be prouder of our scores!
