To my dear friend and diligent teacher, Jeropigo

It’s been a little over three years now since I went down center line with you for the first time. Scoring 52 on a first level test, On the back of the test. the judge wrote “what happened?” I was dancing with two left feet and you were determined humble me.

You’ve always let me know when I’m in the wrong. You’ve made me feel as if I’m unstoppable, and you’ve made me feel like I don’t deserve to look at a horse again. I’ve been embarrassed of our mishaps, and proud of our achievements, wherever we went you made sure somebody saw us.

Now it feels like more people than ever see us. I always thought we would make it, but I didn’t realize how long this road would be. You’ve thought me many lessons on the way, and have always let me try again, even when I’m in the wrong. I know there are greater heights to reach for and that you’ll stand by me in those ambitions. Thank you for dancing with me.

Now, the real work can begin…

Congratulations Lars and Jerry!

It is such a long road to the Grand Prix!

Especially if you and your horse are learning together. Even more so if you have a tricky or difficult horse.

The journey is between the horse and rider.

I have had the privilege of being Lars Biedenbenders coach and mentor in dressage going on three years now. He is a working student turned assistant trainer here at KYB Dressage.

He has paid his dues. He has eaten humble pie. He had gotten up early, stayed up late, worked on his days off. He has tried. He has learned how to ride.

The learning never stops. Some say the Grand Prix is where the real work starts and I kind of agree.

Anyone who knows me realizes that for a working student to stay with me for years and to accomplish their goals says so much more about them as an individual than it does about me or my program.

Those that do not love horses and embrace work and little else rarely stay. It is too exhausting.

Lars stayed. He persevered with his tricky horse. He taught him the one tempi! He worked on transitions and positioning and understanding how very personal the warm up is for each and every ride!

He learned his horse and they did their first two Intermediare II tests this weekend with scores well into the 60’s.

Were there mistakes? Heck yes. But different ones each day offering opportunities to learn.

Jerry the volatile velociraptor stayed with Lars and listened and tried.

Today I am proud.

Of a young man turned horseman….
Lars Biedenbender!

Cheers young man!
Onward you go!

Commitment

That is truly what it takes to make it in this, or any, business.
This young man, Lars Biedenbender has it. In spades.

He shows up. Works hard. Makes mistakes, learns from them, tries again. He is dedicated, another necessity.

Since becoming a working student here two years ago Lars has earned his bronze and Silver medals, has learned to start young horses in a positive manner and is now working on finishing his own horse Jerry to the Grand Prix.

I am so proud to be part of this young man’s journey!

Cheers to you Lars!

Here are some great pictures of Lars Biedenbender Horsemanship, riding Jerry, and his teammate Eva Farrell, riding Rip, from KYB Dressage. This was a fabulous learning opportunity for them as they prepared to compete in the Under 25 Grand Prix. Spanish Olympic rider Juan Manuel Munoz Diaz conducted this clinic at the Iberian Festival in Ocala last week..
