Don’t focus on becoming the best overnight. Focus on getting 1% better!

Small changes may feel insignificant in the moment, but over a career, they become transformational.

Keep showing up. Keep learning. Keep growing!

What’s your “one thing” this week? 💜 Let’s do this!

Here’s a quick one! If you’re worried about constipation, undesirable urination, or defecation in your feline patient… don’t cut off the pelvis on your X-rays!

You don’t always have all the history. There could be an old pelvic fracture. The canal could be narrower than it should be. And so on…

You won’t know if you don’t look! 👀

⚠️ Graphic surgery content ⚠️

Yesterday, we showed you the contrast study that revealed a mysterious tract extending almost to the body wall...

So, we took it out.

And y’all... this thing was big!

What looked like a small draining wound on the surface was actually connected to an extensive tract hidden beneath the skin. No wonder it kept healing over and reopening month after month!

We’ll update you when lab results come back 💖

Draining wound since February... multiple rounds of antibiotics. No culture, no answers. Just a wound that would heal over... then reopen again and again?!

On exam and imaging, there were some abnormalities in the leg, but they didn’t seem to explain what was happening.

So we took a different approach...

By injecting Omnipaque into the draining tract, we were able to map its path, and discovered a channel extending almost all the way to the body wall!

Now that we know where it goes, it’s time to find out what’s causing it.

BRB, heading to surgery!

Surgery isn’t step one for a portosystemic shunt. Medical stabilization is! My three pillars:

1️⃣ Easily absorbable diet: NOT protein-restricted (that can backfire)

2️⃣ Lactulose: converts ammonia to ammonium so we can eliminate it

3️⃣ Antimicrobials: reduce ammonia-producing coliforms in the gut

Get these right before you even consider taking them to CT angiography or the OR. Full breakdown in the video. 💜

Is there a “best” diet for chronic pancreatitis cats? Well, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but that doesn’t mean diet doesn’t matter. Support the microbiome with an easily digestible diet!

Churus? Check. Lick mat? Check. Magic sparkly light that somehow works every time? …Check! Would you try this? 🪩
