This little lady has quite a story. We met Lacey last September when she was brought to our shelter along with her littermates at 9 ½ weeks old. We discovered Lacey had a large defect in the roof of her mouth. There was a hole in her palate, most likely caused by chewing on a wire and electrocuting herself. Ouch!
Despite the injury, she let us know she’s a friendly cat with a zest for life.
We committed to doing everything possible to help Lacey recover. For 6 months, she lived under the watchful eye of our medical team, who treated her for frequent respiratory infections caused by her palate defect. Lacey provided comedic relief with her playful antics in the large area that served as her temporary home. During time periods where Lacey’s health was more stable, she also spent some time in a wonderful foster home.
Once Lacey was ready, we sent her for surgery with a board-certified veterinary dentist at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Levittown. And then back for a second surgery. Success! Our pint-sized patient healed beautifully, and her palate is now closed.
We have loved taking care of Lacey, but we are thrilled that she is ready for home. Her future family should know that they are adopting an athlete. If cat tree climbing were an Olympic sport, Lacey would take the gold. She also loves wand toys and is a natural huntress when it comes to catching them. While Lacey is a fan of many things, she does not like dogs and will do best in a home with no canines.
We are proud to help animals like Lacey heal, recover, and become their true, extraordinary selves on their journey to a new home. If this spunky cat sounds like your ideal new friend, come and meet her at our Lahaska Shelter. https://buckscountyspca.org/pets/lacey/
*** Lacey’s surgery was made possible because of the generosity of people who donate to BCSPCA’s Animal Relief Fund. This Fund helps animals with extensive medical needs and those who have been rescued from animal cruelty and neglect. As you can imagine, we care for a lot of animals with special needs. If you can, please consider a donation to the Animal Relief Fund in Lacey’s honor to help other animals live their best life. Thank you. https://buckscountyspca.org/donate/
