Happy first day of summer, Think Dog fam! ☀️🐶
The longest day of the year means more fun in the sun with our amazing pups! While we’re all excited for beach days and park adventures, remember that summer heat can be tough on our furry friends. Let’s keep them happy, healthy, and safe all season long:
💧 Hydrate up! Always have fresh water available for your dog — and yourself!
🐾 If the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for their paws. Walk early in the morning or late in the evening.
🌳 Seek out shady spots while you’re outside and take frequent breaks to prevent overheating.
🚗 Never leave your dog alone in the car without AC! Temperatures inside a car can skyrocket to dangerous levels even on a mild day. Make sure to keep the AC running for them.
🌊 If your dog loves to swim, supervise them closely and consider a doggy life vest, especially for new swimmers or in open water.
🥵 Watch for signs of heatstroke: excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or lethargy. If you notice these, get your dog to a cool place immediately and contact your vet.
☀️ Dogs with short hair, pink skin, or white fur can get sunburned! Keep them out of direct sun during peak hours and talk to your vet about sun protection.
🐛 Summer often means more bugs, so parasite prevention is key. Make sure your dog is up-to-date on their flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
