German Shepherd Safe Haven

German Shepherd Safe Haven German Shepherd Safe Haven, Inc. A 501(c)3 Non-Profit Public Charity. Dedicated to finding loving forever homes for abandoned German Shepherds.

We have been asked if we are affiliated with any other rescue and the answer is NO we are not. We started this rescue from the ground up without ties to other rescue groups. This rescue was started by founder Tom for personal reasons. Tom lost his Shepherd the year before and she made such a huge impact in his life that he wanted to start this rescue in memory of her. Jen, after fostering numerous

rescued Shepherds and adopting two of her own, wanted a way to give back to the community and make a bigger difference in the lives of these helpless, homeless dogs. Thus German Shepherd Safe Haven was formed.

We finalized Aspen adoption back on September 1st and she settled in the first night and it was like she had lived here since a puppy. I went up to visit her today and captured a photo of them also worked on training with Pam and walking her with a cane and Aspen did so well. Pam wanted to make sure that Aspen was not afraid of walking with it and she was perfect with it. Aspen plays ball in the back yard, goes for car rides and errands with Pam and her Mom. She is the Princess in her new home and this was a perfect match up.

I finalized Max (aka Cody puppy) adoption this morning. He has settled into his new home with Molly and Daddy very well! We did foster to adopt for 3 weeks to make sure it was the right match. Molly was adopted from us 7 years ago and loves having Max as her new training project puppy. Max is going to be the King in his new home.

Eden, Dixie and Cody are doing better. Dewormers are very tough on their systems but they are still puppies and have lots of energy but also sleep very well. They are being crate trained separate but still have plenty a playtime together. This will ensure when they go into the foster to adopt that they will be confident and settled in much faster.

Meet Cody, Eden and Dixie that were rescued from the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. They were dumped at Laguna Beach park. They are around 3 months old. We are pretty sure we have them locked into a foster to adopt homes in the next week. Please stay tuned to follow their journey to their forever homes.

Meet Renegade's new forever family. I finalized his adoption this morning. They have been a German Shepherd Safe Haven alumni family for the past 10 years. Their last dog Avery was put down last year because of cancer. They weren't sure if they wanted another dog but decided to expand their hearts. So Renegade is one lucky boy to have all these play buddies to hang out with all day every day the rest of his life. Good luck Renegade!

For the people that want to surrender a dog that they just rescued or took in as a stray, that dog should have went to the local animal shelter in which it was found. It is not a rescues responsibility to take in dogs that were found on the streets or in a bad situation. If you are going to take in a dog be the responsible person and follow through on your actions and stop blaming a rescue for not taking in a dog because of your decision on trying to be that Hero. There are too many people out there trying to be a Hero and not doing what is right by the dog in question.

A Message to Our Supporters and the Community

Hi everyone, we just want to share a quick note with you and let you know that German Shepherd Safe Haven is exercising a little social distancing from everything right now. Tom, the founder, lost his Dad three weeks ago and he will need to take some much needed time away to focus on taking care of things back home. Along with the current public health situation, it has become difficult to continue the day to day operations of the rescue as we have done in the past while ensuring health and safety. However, please note that we are NOT going out of business. We will monitor the ongoing situation and possibly resume rescuing German Shepherds starting December 1, 2020. We know this is a difficult time for everyone but we need to work through these situations so we can come back stronger and ready to help this beautiful breed the way they deserve. We appreciate your understanding and continued support. Stay healthy and remember to focus on living a positive life!
