Mickey D should never have suffered this way!

When this sweet young dog arrived in our care from the shelter, we quickly discovered the unimaginable: his jaw had been shattered. He has likely been living in chronic pain for far too long — struggling to eat, uncomfortable every single day, and silently enduring what no animal ever should.

And yet despite everything, Mickey remains gentle, trusting, and full of life.

Today, Mickey has a real chance at healing.

The incredible team at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine believes they can repair his jaw through a series of surgeries that will allow him to finally live without pain and go on to live a full, happy life. But the cost of these life-saving procedures is far beyond what our small rescue can manage alone.

We are asking for your help to give Mickey the future he deserves.

# Help Mickey D Walk Away From Pain 💔

When Mickey D arrived at Hugs For Harry from Stockton Animal Services, our hearts sank.

This tiny 5-pound Chihuahua was suffering from a severely shattered jaw.

We don’t know what happened to him before he came to us. What we do know is that despite the unimaginable pain he must have endured, Mickey remains unbelievably gentle, trusting, and loving. Even now, he leans into soft touch, wants to be held close, and looks at people with quiet hope in his eyes.

No dog should have to live like this.

We immediately sought veterinary care and additional X-rays confirmed the devastating extent of his injuries. Multiple veterinarians have told us Mickey requires specialized reconstructive surgery to repair his jaw and give him the chance to live a normal, pain-free life.

The problem is the cost.

As a small nonprofit rescue focused on saving senior, abused, neglected, and medically fragile dogs, we simply cannot do this alone.

But we refuse to give up on him.

Mickey is still a young dog with his entire life ahead of him. He deserves the chance to eat comfortably, play, feel safe, and finally experience the love and stability every dog deserves.

We are currently working with UC Davis Veterinary Medicine in hopes they may be able to help Mickey receive the urgent specialty care he desperately needs.

Today, we are asking our community to help us fight for this little boy.

❓❓❓Do you remember we discussed a relationship between Nora and Eddy? This sweet couple came from the Stockton animal shelter. They have a strong bond. Eddy followed Nora everywhere. Now, the situation is a little better. Eddy does not need to be with her everywhere, but wants to see her around. One time when they were walking separately from each other, and Eddy came back early, he started immediately to look for Nora. He looked in every single kennel! He did not look for food; he looked for her!
‼️‼️Check our stories! That's hilarious how much he tied to Nora! He does not need to sleep next to her anymore, but still needs her presence around!

Do you remember our sweet two-year-old bulldog, Kenny?
He has a tumor over his tail that is progressing negatively and affects his digestive system and kidneys. From a cheerful, active, playful doggie, he turned into a very slow, sad dog who is no longer interested in treats. This is a bad sign. Look at our stories.
🙏🙏🙏Thanks to donations and our volunteers, we have almost enough money to transfer him to the Blue Rave Animal Hospital in Folsom (which specializes in small-breed dogs), where he is now being treated. As the first step, Kenny gets antibiotics for the next three weeks to eliminate the infection and prepare his body for surgery. The second step is the surgeon's procedure to excise the tumor and probably the tail. Crossing our fingers, he will go through the surgical procedure successfully and recover as soon as he can.

Hey, guys, we have some amazing news!
Do you remember our 12-year-old Labrador, Rusty?
I posted about him as our old, overweight dog who has some joint issues from gaining weight. We have been taking care of him by improving his diet and walking him often.
‼️‼️‼️Rusty, our old buddy, has lost 19 pounds and now weighs 98!!!💪💪💪
It is a wonderful achievement!!!

Have you noticed our new cover photo of this incredible gentle being? This is Krypto - our gorgeous sweet Great Dane who is now looking for a foster.He's been staying with us because his mama has Alzheimers, but being at Hugs can never replace being in a loving home. Krypto deserves so much. He's a big gentle giant who just needs a family to love on him and a soft couch to lie on. 🥰
