🎃 Keep Your Furry Friends Safe this Spooky Season! 👻
Halloween is fun for us, but it can be scary (and dangerous) for our pets! Keep your dogs & cats safe with these essential tips:
1. 🍫 Lock Up the Candy Stash!
• NEVER let pets eat Halloween candy. Chocolate and treats containing the sugar substitute xylitol (found in many sugar-free items) are highly toxic and potentially fatal for dogs and cats.
• Even wrappers can cause choking or intestinal blockages. Keep candy bowls and trick-or-treat bags high and secure!
2. 🚪 Secure a Safe Zone.
• The constant doorbell and costumed strangers can cause major stress and anxiety.
• Keep pets in a quiet, secure room away from the front door during peak trick-or-treating hours. Include a cozy bed, favorite toys, and some soothing background noise.
• This also prevents them from darting out the door when it opens!
3. 🔥 Watch Out for Decorations.
• Use battery-operated candles in your jack-o'-lanterns instead of real flames to prevent burns or a house fire if a pet knocks it over.
• Keep wires, plastic decorations, and glow sticks out of reach. Ingesting these can cause choking, blockages, or chemical irritation.
4. 👗 Costume Comfort First.
• If you dress up your pet, ensure the costume fits properly, doesn't restrict their movement, breathing, or vision, and has no small, chewable parts.
• If your pet shows signs of stress (ears back, tail tucked), just stick to a festive bandana or skip the outfit entirely! Their comfort is most important.
5. 🏷️ Check ID Tags & Microchip.
• If a spooked pet manages to escape, their ID tag and up-to-date microchip information are their best ticket home! Double-check your contact details are current.
