Hello Community,
The Colorado Department of Agriculture posted an update today 11/20 that a case of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) has been detected in Larimer County Colorado following an outbreak linked to barrel racing and rodeo events in Oklahoma and Texas over the last several weeks.
Due to the severity and highly contagious nature of this virus, we need to work together to protect our herds across Colorado and do our part to prevent the spread. This is why many barns are immediately activating our own safety protocols.
It is critical to protect our horses!
🩺Monitor for any signs of illness
📢 Report any signs of sickness immediately
🛑 Activate strong biosecurity measures including cleaning, hand washing, eliminating potential cross contamination, avoid visiting multiple farms, etc.
For Skyline Stables protocol specifically, the following is effective immediately:
1- No haul ins or visiting horses are allowed
2- No outside trainers
3- No horses can leave the property with the intent to return
4- We will not be accepting new boarders onsite until the outbreak is contained
5- If you go to other barns or have contact with any other horses PLEASE DO NOT come to Skyline Stables without showering, changing clothes and sanitizing shoes
6- If your vet or farrier need to come out, please confirm they are following recommended safety protocols
We sincerely thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We hope to update with an “all clear” and return to normal operations as soon as possible.
