Rescue Groups Work Together to Save Emaciated Pit Bulls in Need of Home. Evangeline Deputies Cite Owner for Cruelty to Animals
Ville Platte, La.—(HUMANE SOCIETY OF LOUISIANA) Two animal rescue organizations recently joined forces to save two emaciated pit bulls from a neglectful owner. The Humane Society of Louisiana (HSLA) and Hayden’s Hoofbeat Haven and Training are seeking donations for the dogs’ vet care and looking for someone to adopt them.
In August, Hayden’s Hoofbeat Haven director and humane investigator Brittany Ware helped secure two female emaciated pit bulls from their owner once the owner was unable to provide any veterinary records. Ville Platte sheriff’s deputies issued a citation to the owner for cruelty.
The brown pit bull, now named Honey Bear, was emaciated and had a major flea infestation to the point where she had broken skin lesions from scratching. She also had internal parasites and no vaccine history. The white pit bull, now named Patches, was emaciated and loaded with fleas, internal parasites, was heartworm positive, and had a major urinary tract infection.
“Both dogs are fully progressed and doing amazing now,” Ware said.
"We're very grateful to Brittany for responding to this and likely 100s of other calls throughout the state. She provides much-needed services in underserved areas of our state," said Jeff Dorson, HSLA Director.
Honey Bear and Patches will be scheduled in the coming weeks for a spay and will then go up for adoption.
HSLA is asking for help with Honey Bear and Patches’ vet bills. If you’re able to donate for their ongoing care, visit https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/humanela
