We'd like to start by expressing our heartfelt gratitude to our courageous Veterans who selflessly protected our lives and freedoms. Today, we honor their bravery and celebrate their sacrifices. As an animal hospital, we'd also like to pay tribute to Sgt. Stubby, the canine war hero who served in World War I. Stubby, a stray dog, was taken in by Private J. Robert Conroy in 1917 and became the unofficial mascot of the 102nd Infantry, 26th Yankee Division. He bravely served on the front lines in France for 18 months, detecting mustard gas and alerting his unit to incoming artillery shells. Stubby's heroism earned him numerous awards, including a Wound Stripe and a Gold Medal from The Humane Education Society. We honor Stubby's memory, as well as the bravery and sacrifices of all Veterans, human and animal alike.
