🚨Tomorrow, we release a list of 50 names.

50 LIVES. 50 of our dogs — each one counting on us, each one with a deadline of June 22nd. That’s two weeks. Fourteen days to find 50 second chances. We have to get down to a manageable number of animals. Living in crates and kennels is NOT humane over sustained periods of time.

So today, we’re sounding the mayday. We are launching Operation: Fight for 50 — and we are calling for all hands on deck. Even the United Cajun Navy has stepped up and joined the mission. We need everyone. That means you. 🫵

You don’t have to do everything. You just have to do something:
→ ADOPT one.
→ FOSTER one (even for two weeks).
→ Connect us with a RESCUE.
→ And if you can’t take one home — SHARE this. Every share is another open door. It’s free, costs you nothing, and could save a dog’s life.

But don’t think “someone else will save them.” You could be that someone. . .

The list goes live tomorrow. Today, we rally the Pack.

Don’t get it twisted: we are desperate for help but we will still be ensuring good matches and quality homes. We’re Fighting for their Lives but also Fighting for the rest of them too!

Fee waives will remain on all listed animals for the duration of the mayday.

🐾Join the Pack. 👊Fight for the 50.
We will not give up without a fight. We will not go gently into the night.

🚨 A Message We Never Want to Write 🚨

Our shelter was built to comfortably house 120 dogs. Today, we are caring for more than 200.

These are not "extra dogs." They are not kennel numbers. They are not statistics.

They are home-ready pets.

They are dogs who have been fully vetted, temperament tested, and cleared for adoption. Dogs who have done everything we have asked of them. Dogs who wake up every morning in a concrete kennel, hoping that today will be the day someone finally stops at their door and chooses them.

Some have been waiting for months.

Month after month, they watch other dogs leave while they remain behind.

No matter how dedicated our staff is, no matter how much enrichment, exercise, love, and care we provide, a shelter is not a home. It was never meant to be. Living indefinitely in a kennel is not a life. Over time, even the most resilient dogs can begin to deteriorate from the stress of long-term confinement. The longer they wait, the harder it becomes for them to cope.

It is heartbreaking, and it is not humane to allow dogs to spend months and years waiting in a shelter environment until their quality of life has declined beyond recovery.

On Monday, we will release our Mayday List of dogs facing a euthanasia deadline due to severe overcrowding.

In an effort to save as many lives as possible, all dogs 6 months and older will have no adoption fee.

Every dog in our adoption program is:
🐾 Fully vetted
🐾 Temperament tested
🐾 Ready for a home today

These dogs are not asking for perfection. They are not asking for a mansion, a fenced yard, or a life of luxury.

They are asking for a couch.
A bed.
A family.
A chance.

The reality is that we cannot adopt our way out of this crisis without our community's help. We need adopters. We need fosters. We need people willing to share our dogs and help us reach someone looking for a best friend.

If you have ever thought about adopting, please come meet our dogs.

If you cannot adopt, please share.

Because behind every kennel door is a dog whose entire world has been reduced to four concrete walls, and many of them have been waiting far too long for their second chance.

Please don't wait until you see their name on a euthanasia list to decide they matter. They matter now. ❤️

🛑STOP SCROLLING! SHELTER IN MAYDAY STATUS!!

We have been dreading writing this post, but we now have no choice. We are out of kennels, with over 200 dogs in our care. When our shelter is designed to house 120 dogs, we simply cannot keep up with the standard of care for this size of population. THIS IS WHERE YOU HELP: we need adopters and fosters!!

❤️‍🩹ADOPT! We are waiving adoption fees for all dogs of 6 months of age or older through this Saturday! All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and prevention and we also cover the cost of Heartworm Treatment for those that are positive.
❤️‍🩹FOSTER! Provide a temporary safe haven for a pup in need. It is free! We supply the food, vet care and any other necessities. You supply the love - simple as that!
❤️‍🩹AT MINIMUM, PLEASE SHARE THIS POST TO SAVE THIER LIVES!

🚨Why now? Come Monday, if we do not free up enough space, we will be giving perfectly adoptable dogs a deadline to find placement. This means our longest residents are at risk of being euthanized for no other reason than lack of space.

Scroll through the pictures in this post to see some of our shelter residents who desperately need you. See our website for the link to see our full list of adoptable animals: www.sttammany.gov/pets

🫵YOUR NEXT STEP: Come into the shelter to meet our dogs, fill out paperwork and leave with a new best friend 💙🩵
STPAS is located at 31078 LA-36, Lacombe, LA 70445, with adoption/foster hours of 10-4 Monday-Saturday

🐰💕 Meet Sprinkles (A125691) 💕🐰

Sprinkles is a 5-month-old neutered male who learned the hard way that when rabbits say they're "starting a family," they really mean starting an entire subdivision. 🏘️🐇

After being owner surrendered, Sprinkles decided he was done living in a house with 17 siblings, cousins, roommates, and whatever else rabbit math created. He's officially hopped out on his own and is embracing the bunny-chelor lifestyle. 🌿✨

Don't let his sweet name or his post-neuter donut suit fool you—this guy has rizz for days. He's a certified lady's man, but thanks to his recent "no more bunny business" surgery, he's retired from contributing to the population explosion. 💀😂

His hobbies include:
🥕 Eating salads bigger than he is
🐇 Practicing zoomies at unreasonable speeds
👀 Judging humans from across the room
💤 Taking power naps between snacks
🚫 Avoiding child support

Sprinkles is good with kids, chill as can be, and ready to find a forever home where the only thing multiplying is the treat budget.

💲 Adoption Fee: $100

Help this bun leave his hare-raising past behind and find a family that's just his own. Somebunny out there is about to get very lucky! 🐰❤️
