A message from the Director:

Thanksgiving will soon be upon us, many of us will be surrounded by family and friends - both two and four (some three!) legged. I wanted to let you all know that we here at STPAS are thankful for you, our community of animal lovers - for all your support over the years. Every call, every paw. Your advocacy and donations. Your belief in our mission and our utility as a government service.

Every year we are privileged to help thousands of animals in our community. But what gets overlooked often, as do most things that end up as data, is that each of those animals has a story, and a person who wanted to help attached to them. Some were strays, some confiscated from harm’s way because of a concerned tip; others surrendered to us because their owners knew it would be better than leaving them forsaken on the side of the road. All find their way to our shelter because of caring community individuals. It truly is a team effort and takes our combined villages.

The simple truth is that we couldn’t do what we do, without you.

So many Louisiana communities across the 64 parishes don’t have an animal shelter or services, and their local animals suffer for it. We are blessed to have the one we do— and that is thanks to you.

Thank you to the adopters and fosters. Thank you to the community cat caretakers. The invisible army of TNR trappers. The local rescue community. The dog whisperers. The trainers. The loving volunteers who selflessly give their time to our animals. The caring and compassionate staff. The philanthrophic local business owners. Our law enforcement partners. Our fire districts. The nonprofit community. Every single resident of this parish helps in one way or another - actively and passively alike.

We are thankful for all of you. Thank you for making St. Tammany an animal-loving community and allowing us to not only humbly serve the animals and you, but to have given us task, purpose and jobs so noble and fulfilling.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we hope your hearth and home are filled with love and kindness — and a few furred friends!

Your STPAS team

❤️🐾 Holiday Foster Heroes Needed! 🐾❤️

As we head into the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, we’re asking our community to help bring a little extra warmth and comfort to the animals who need it most. We have many wonderful pets—including a lot of sweet seniors—who would love nothing more than a cozy home, a soft bed, and someone to share the holidays with.

Fostering, even just for a short time, can change an animal’s life. Our senior dogs have given a lifetime of love, and they deserve to spend the holidays surrounded by kindness, not in a kennel.

🙀We are at cat-pacity!🙀

Our $10 adoption specials for cats will end this Wednesday, so come into the shelter before the holiday to bring home your new feline friend!! ⏰⌛

Can't adopt but still have space & love to share? Come foster! Fostering is free, as we will supply you with all the necessities. We need help, especially with our little kittens who aren't big enough for their spay/neuter surgeries. Fostering them in a home until they're big enough is an amazing way to keep them healthy and help socialize them for their adopted homes!

Our adoption hours this week are Monday-Wednesday, 10AM-4PM. We will be closed Thursday, Friday & Saturday for the holiday 💙🩵

He is a great listener and won't be too far from your side. Even here in the shelter, we don't think this boy has had a bad day! 🥰😁 I mean look at that smile!!

During our Black Friday adoption special, Rumple's adoption fee is sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society so come meet him while you have the chance. Our adoption hours are Monday-Saturday, 10AM-4PM (our Black Friday deal ends next week!). 🖤🐾

Rumple is a 2-year-old, neutered male Staffordshire Terrier who is also heartworm negative! He checks all the boxes ☑ All he is missing is YOU!

Annual Thanksgiving week PSA:

Hey everyone. We wanted to make a public service announcement ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. We know many of you will have family in town. Please be mindful that your pets may not be comfortable around people they don’t normally see. Every year we see our bite cases rise sharply over the holidays from relatives and friends encountering pets in their homes. Have a plan for your animal when you have guests over. Make your guests aware of your animals tendencies and triggers, and if you know your animal has a propensity to nip or be possessive when overwhelmed: make accommodations for them in a quiet, safe part of your home away from relatives. Likewise, if you are a visitor to another home, please be mindful of the family’s pet! We and the residents here at the shelter wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving!

At some point in your life’s journey - there will be a cat or a dog that happens upon you. Sometimes it gets into your garbage, sometimes you find it on the side of the road, sometimes they show up at your doorstep. It is very important for you to adopt this animal as they become part of your lore.

For those whom may not yet have had this happen and are wishing to expedite this process - our shelter provides an incredibly advanced and accelerated option to hasten the universe’s threads. Stop by the shelter next week, fill out a questionnaire and an adoption counselor will be happy to accommodate your request by letting you meet all of the wonderful animals of our adoption program.

Check out all of your possible options at www.stpgov.org/pets to get an idea of who you just might be fated to meet and become part of your story!

All animals come fully vetted - fixed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccinatons.
