Here’s a list of common training challenges that many dog owners face that we have successfully assisted with:
1. Leash Pulling**
Dogs pulling on the leash during walks can make outings frustrating and difficult. This is a common issue, especially with high-energy breeds or puppies.
2. Door Dashing
Many dogs bolt through doors when they’re opened, creating safety concerns and chaos at entryways.
3. Jumping on People
Jumping up on guests or family members is a typical behavior problem, often rooted in excitement or seeking attention.
4. Separation Anxiety
Dogs who experience separation anxiety can become destructive, vocal, or excessively clingy when left alone, making it difficult for owners to leave the house.
5. Excessive Barking
Whether it's barking at the doorbell, other dogs, or out of boredom, excessive barking can become a significant nuisance.
6. Destructive Chewing
Chewing on furniture, shoes, or other household items is a common problem, particularly for puppies or dogs who are anxious or under- or over-stimulated.
7. Housebreaking Issues
Accidents inside the house, even after potty training, are frustrating for both dogs and owners, and can often be caused by inconsistent training or medical issues.
8. Resource Guarding
Dogs may show aggression or possessiveness over food, toys, or even their owners, making it difficult to interact with them or approach certain areas.
9. Aggression Toward People or Other Animals
Fear-based aggression or territorial behavior can cause major challenges, whether directed at strangers, other dogs, or pets in the home.
10. Fear and Anxiety
Dogs that are scared of loud noises (like thunderstorms or fireworks), new environments, or certain objects may react with fear-based behaviors such as hiding, trembling, or avoidance.
11. Lack of Focus/Distraction
Dogs who have difficulty focusing, especially in distracting environments, may struggle with obedience commands or training sessions.
12. Excessive Excitement or Hyperactivity
High-energy dogs can become overly excited, jumping, barking, or exhibiting other uncontrolled behaviors, especially during playtime or when meeting new people.
13. Not Listening or Ignoring Commands
Dogs not responding to basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” or “come” can be a sign of inconsistent training or lack of clear communication.
14. Counter Surfing
Dogs may jump on counters or tables to steal food or objects, often driven by curiosity, hunger, or habit.
15. Unwanted Digging
Digging in the yard or garden is often caused by boredom, anxiety, or seeking attention. It’s a common issue for certain breeds, particularly terriers.
16. Leash Reactivity or Aggression
Some dogs may become reactive or aggressive when on a leash, barking, lunging, or growling at other dogs or people.
17. Shyness or Fear of New Environments
Dogs that are fearful of new places, people, or experiences can struggle with socialization and may show signs of anxiety, including trembling, avoidance, or aggression.
18. Nipping or Biting
Puppies and some adult dogs may nip or bite out of excitement, fear, or a lack of proper bite inhibition, leading to undesirable behavior.
19. Overexcitement at Mealtime or During Play
Some dogs get overly excited or even aggressive during mealtimes or play, showing signs of impatience or possessiveness.
20. Failure to Generalize Commands
Dogs may follow commands in one environment (like at home) but fail to obey them in others (like outside or at the park), making consistency key in training.
AND SO MUCH MORE.
If you’re experiencing any of these challenges, you’re NOT alone! Many dog owners face these same issues, and with the right approach, they can be resolved. Effective training takes time, consistency, and patience, and it’s best to work with us to ensure you’re on the right track!
